ZL1 Rear vs. Dana 60
I narrowed my choice down to these two and would like some input.
I have a 2010 SS M6 with a Vortech V3 Est RWHP 520 Street Slayer Twin Carbon Complete BMR suspension MGW shifter DSS 1000HP axles Future mods might be smaller blower pulley and a cam Est Future RWHP 630 I can get a new GM ZL1 kit with axles and driveshaft for about 4000. Is there any reason to go with the Dana 60 over the ZL1 since I plan on going with the 3.73 ratio? What would be the cost of a Dana 60 and can I reuse my DSS axles? |

You can pick up a whole zl1 complete rear subframe for around 3k. Zl1 for sale section has a 3.73 setup with axles diff brakes for 2000. Check it out. Only need a driveshaft which the driveshaft shop has a nice one.

Noisy strong setup or quiet strong setup. I changed my noisy strong setup to a quiet strong setup. 3.73 gears was good enough for me. Just my $.02

Can the zl1 handle 1000rwhp full weight Camaro in the 8.90-9.00 range?

Yes, especially with free shipping and no tax.
I paid about $4K for my kit. I also found out later the kit was overpriced by Chevy compared to piecing out the parts yourself. This could still be true. If I had it to do over again I think I would go ZL1 diff for quiet strength, and after market axles and drive shaft to save a few pounds.

I have a new ZL1 rear and after market axles on order. Not sure about the driveshaft thinking of just going with the ZL1 stock shaft. I hear some of the after marker shafts are noisy

We have started using a sound deaden-er in the tube of all our new shafts. Just an FYI for all Camaro Guys. there is no sound deadening in the back of these cars, pull up the back seat and you will see that its bare metal so any noise at all even "normal" noise will be echoed into the cabin.

I have gathered all the parts for my rear diff upgrade.
Went with slightly used ZL1 diff and axles, a DSS aluminum driveshaft and H-E's offset bushings. Now to just drop the subframe and make it all fit. Probably would not need to drop the subframe but I have a fuel leak I need to address as well.
