Subaru STI + Toyota Supra =....

This thing.

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/17/r...o-the-surface/

My guess is that its totally going to make the market. Subaru was too embarrassed by Mitsu kicking its @$$ with the new Evo X and they want to fire back with something. So next STI or Supra?

A tick over 13.0 sec. and you're through the quarter-mile. It's a rush, of course, but not overly dramatic. Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

Toyota will make sure its light, and cheap. Easy to fix. With room under the hood.

This car looks pretty good! But will find a way to make it ugly later....

As much grief as I might get for this - I have been anticipating this car since they announced it like 3 years ago. I have a good feeling this will be the new Celica if they name it anything- probably not the Supra.

If they make this RWD I dont think they can name this a Celica, not saying it has to be a Supra, but no way they carry that name. too cheap, and fwd.

With the subaru id expect it to get upgrades to the suspension, but one thing that is confusing me is why they would potentially make this an STI when its RWD. The STi brand name has always been attached to AWD platforms so i dont think they would carry it over, but who knows.

They want to bring back a sports car for the sports car enthusiast but keep it under $20k? While this car MAY use the Supra name plate for reconizability, it definitely won't be anything like the old Supras. If I am not mistaken, wasn't the last generation of Supra in the Corvette price range?

I think it was a little less, 40s maybe. If they do bring it back, it will likely be an enthusiast model in the sense it will be light, RWD, manual, and takes easily to mods.

I'm guessing a turbo boxer engine- and unless Subaru manages to screw the styling up on their side I'd prefer to get the Subaru version just to avoid driving a Toyota if I ever got one.

X 1000000000

Subaru > Toyota

The fact that toyota is involved just means the upkeep and parts will be a cheap fix. Buddy of mine has a Lotus that costs nearly nothing to maintain because it has toyota internals.

I read that Toyota is desperate to keep it under $20K? I guess they could put together a base model that stays around that mark. Might be a total slug though. A higher level model could be competitive with the Genesis Coupe and 370Z though.

I'd buy one, but only if it looked like the car in the picture.

I like that STi concept. This car looks nice, too, but the unfortunate likelihood is that Toyota will kill this car's inspiration with weak components. This could make an attractive Supra if it becomes a reality.

Celicas used to be RWD and sporty (until the mid '80s I think). Recycling the name might bring back some enthusiasts and bring in the kids who like the Celica because the recent ones look pretty fast.
