GT 500 vs Zl1 ?

We all know the 2013 and 2014 GT500 is mostly a straight line muscle car . But i think we all can admit it is the best Mustang that ford has ever put out . On the other hand we all know our beloved Zl1 is a more sophisticated track car and has more style in my opinion. But i would like to able to compete in the straight line too . I said compete not blow away. Just be able to be closer then i am with my stock Zl1 . But is that asking to much ?. I don't want to do anything that would effect the long term health of the car or motor . Is what i am thinking even realistic ? Can you have a track car that also compete in the straight line arena with a GT500 or is that like a oxymoron ?

Check out the tuners for a 100 rwhp package, that should keep up to a stock one. Don't forget that driving ability is a big key here too.

Cold air and an upper pulley and your there.. So for 700 bucks you would be around the same hp as the gt500.and have a much better track car.

I think some people have almost gotten there and kept their warranty. You can get a CAI, ported throttle body and headers and may not require a tune. Talk with your service dept about it, many Dealers will work with you as long as you don't get a tune and if something goes wrong it can't be attributed to your mods. If you even get close to the GT500s HP the Zl1 will probably be faster based on how they are set up.

Do you have a 1LE or a ZL1?
I have been blowing away stock GT500's at the drag strip and at the road course for a long time. It is so easy to mod to 600+ at the tires and mount a set of drag radials, this will blow them away in a straight line. That is all you need to do. It is not difficult and that power level is very safe on this car. GM has always had a much easier car to mod. Find a good tuner in your area spend a few bucks and it will be done.

You should change what you drive in your profile it says 2014 1LE. The ZL1 is one pulley swap and a tune away from beating the stock GT500 anywhere.... literally.

Just be happy with what you bought. Chances are that half the GT500's you'll run into are lightly modded with DRs. Anybody poppin around in a stock GT500 probably don't race it much.

I am seeing all these really cool Mods, but I don't want to void the warranty...lol, so I can only do a couple..That's okay, when most of the Warranty is close to being used up, I'll have all my goodies ready to go.

I don't really consider the tires mods, I have 3 different configurations I swap around depending on what I'm doing with the car. I learned a while back that bringing street tires to a drag race is like bringing a knife to a gun fight. Setting yourself up for failure there....

I really don't think the engine warranty should influence anyone that wants to mod. I know of 2 LSA motor failures since 2009 that had to have warranty replacement and one of them was lightly modded and they replaced it anyway. I guess you could be the third but I figure if you take it out and bump the limiter in every gear and nothing happens its probably assembled correctly and it will hold if you mod it. Even highly modded very few people are having engine failures.

So....ah....what counties are you working.....

If your willing to mod. After warranty and pay out of pocket for any possible breakage, why not now? In my opinion modding them early breaks the car in at that power level. Waiting till you put many miles on it and wearing out he warranty then pushing it a lot harder I would think it would be harder on the drive train. IMO
