How do you pause the iPod from the radio controls?

I hook my iPhone to the USB and use the iPod interface on the radio to select music. Plays fine, except for the occasional static (which I will get the update for).

However, I also use iPhone turn by turn navigation software. It will nicely lower the volume before announcing the turn, but sometimes I would like to stop the music during complicated turns. I discovered it is impossible to pause the music when connected via USB.

The alternative it to use the Bluetooth interface. There I can pause the music on the iPhone and hear only the turn instructions. The drawback is I have to disconnect the USB and the charging source to control the iPod from the phone. The Radio interface takes control whenever the USB is connected and the only way to pause the iPod is to switch to the radio or XM (but then I can't hear the navigation instructions).

Am I missing something or is there no pause control for the iPod over the radio? That's a big miss if that is the case.

As far as I have seen, I could not see a pause function for the iPod when connected through USB. Maybe I just haven't looked enough

I'll have to try this, but I thought it only muted the sound

Turn the power off, it will continue the sound right where it was when you turn it back on.

All those will stop it playing. Even disconnecting the cable. But what is needed is a pause button so the music will stop, but the navigation app can continue to provide direction. You can do this with your headphones provided your not plugged into the radio.

toggle the source button to aux in and then toggle back to the ipod. That's what I do when I want to pause it.

There is no pause button. (A minor flaw)

A minor flaw? Only if you are not a designer. I beg to differ. Find a player that doesn't have a pause and only an off button to stop it from playing. The interface is primitive. Probably outsourced. I love my Camaro. But I will not upgrade until the next one has an entertainment center with features from the last 10 years.
