Cancelling extended warranty

I got the 5 year extended warranty and I was wondering if I could cancel it. I'm going into to my second year of ownership and I was thinking about doing a tune and performance mods after my 3rd year...and if I can how does it work, do they write you a cheque to pay you back the difference or would they just deduct it off my finance plan?

You sure can. Just visit your dealer and they can cancel it. If its financed I believe the money is credited to the account, if its payed for then the money comes back to you.

It will be paid on the load if you have a loan and you won't get the full amount back

Reimbursement might be different in Canada.
If the ext warranty was financed in the loan, it might require refinancing.

Good luck with that, unless it is the GMPP you will have a tough time getting a refund, and even if you do it will be pennies on the dollar. I found out the hard way a bunch of years ago that your "extended" warrantee actually starts at the mileage when you took possession of your car. The theory that you are under 36,000 and still in factory does not apply.

There will be a admin fee, which means they will keep a bit of the money.

Sorry, I missed that he was from Canada. I have no idea what he may be up against up there.

Are the mods really needed? or can they wait a while more..

Doesnt sound like a good financial decision to me, especially since it's financed and the fact you'll be having it for a while more...

Then again, if your financially stable/flexible, no point holding back now is there?

I'm gonna cancel mine but i just got it a week ago so I'm good. Within the first month of ownership if there is no claims on the account then it is a full refund.

I've done this a few times, like when trading in a car. You would get a prorated unused portion of the "policy" usually based on miles. It is in reality an insurance policy more than it is a warranty.

Here is a guide. Bought car and warranty Dec 31 2010. I kept the warranty until i decided to burn the rest of my overall warranty on mods. Cancelled it 3 1/2 weeks ago after 25 mos & 25,500 miles. Got a check this Wed for $874 original warranty cost was $1,583 got back about 55% of it.

Actually the GMPP warranties start on the date/mileage you purchase the warranty... that's why its always better to wait until just before the 36mo/36K factory B2B expires to buy a GMPP extended plan.

Third party plans vary...
