Interesting to note -- they use this motor in the Formula Holden series. They achieve 387hp from them NA, but use motec systems (basically an unlocked beefed up ME9) to drive them. Last edited by MadMaxx; 05-24-2009 at 07:53 PM. |

I've read 2 other "detailed" write ups on the US spec version, neither of which were as detailed as this ... EXCELLENT FIND !!
Anyone else catch the lower performance output ?? 190kw = 255 HP ... vs. 304 HP (Camaro & CTS) 340Nm = 250 ft-lb ... vs. 273 ft-lb. Also mentions a Dual Mass Flywheel. This was discussed here before, but thought I remember the Camaro clutch not being the "Dual Mass" type. Dual Mass is usually much more $$ to service than a std. flywheel, clutch, & PP. Manual Transmission appears to be the same (not specified as "AISIN", but all ratios are identical) but mentions a final drive of 2.87:1 ... vs. 3.27:1 for Camaro. If the Aussies are using similar 28-5/8" o/a dia. tires, we are talking a 12.2% reduction of RPM when cruising in O.D. ... 1950 vs. 2225 RPM @ 75 MPH !! 2225 RPM @ 75 MPH is lower than many vehicles today, but I was kind of curious if this 3.6L (propelling a 3750 lb. vehicle) could tollerate even more of a highway gear since 75% of my driving is on the interstate with cruise locked on 75 MPH. If it could boost MPG by 10-12% (32 MPG), that would be pretty sweet !! Thanks again for the very informative read !! Doug |

Doug....I've seen some threads where people are getting 32 MPG stock. New EPA quidelines are conservative I think.

I was under the impression that all of the holden HFV6's were fuel injected, not SIDI. Meaning their alloytec 190 is the same as our LY7, or very similar.
I could certainly be wrong here though. - Xanthos

This V6 is epic. I'm glad to hear of these performance applications.
New EPA standards are simply wrong. I would encourage you to contact your elected officials and the bureaucrats in the White House to ask for fairer EPA standards for testing combustion engine output. Tell them that the numbers reported by the EPA are consistently lower than those reported by vehicle owners.

32 mpg ..no way. With the best gas and new oil change, the best I get is 17.8 city and 23mpg hwy. I have no idea where they get 27mpg...maybe on a decending hwy.

I just got 28.6 mpg over a stretch through the flint hills of eastern Kansas of 157 miles at 72 mph cruise control. That included one stop, shut off and restart at a tollway plaza. On flat land over a 15 mile stretch today at 70 mph cruise control 75 degrees and 85% humidity I recorded 31.5 mpg. Your car under-performs at 23 highway.
