Brake Pads

Just an FYI. I got tired of all the brake dust on my polished wheels. I've cleaned them 4 times in 1,600 miles. Each time they were almost dark grey or at least very dusty. So this afternoon I put Hawk Performance Ceramic '09+ CTS-V pads on all four corners. I have bedded them in and driven about 100 miles. Braking seems as good as before (perhaps it will not be as good on the track but I don't plan on tracking) and there is minimal dust if any.

great brake pad but this is why i opted for the black rims. My boss has the cts-v with the chrome rims and after 2 days of driving they are almost black again. I laugh every time. Either way you have to stay on top of the cleaning of these wheels (black or polished) if the dust sets in and eats any of the clearcoat on the wheel they are done. Give them a good coat of wax/sealer to make them last longer.

I sealed and waxed the rims along with the rest of the car the first day I had it. The rims clean easy. It was just that the amount of dust was unreal. Even with a 100 miles of freeway driving the wheels would be turning dusty. Anyway it's much better now.

What did you use to seal and wax them?

I installed the Hawk Ceramic pads on my CTS-V and the decrease in dust was unbelievable. I also sprayed the wheels with Eagle One Wheel Keep Clean after every wash and the wheels would actually stay clean for a couple days of driving.

I plan on doing the same with my ZL when it arrives. If Hawk can make a dustless pad, why can't GM/Brembo do something.

Sorry guys, performance brakes make dust like a dirt road in August. If you don't plan on tracking your car, change to a less agressive pad, or learn to love your powerball.

I've been several hundred miles now which includes around town stop and go driving and my wheels are still clean. Scrubbing the wheels to get them perfectly clean was a pain even when they had been waxed. For me the $$ for these pads was well spent.

Because they wanted maximum stopping ability?!?!?! Dustless doesn't cut it on a track my friend.
