Assembly Line Production

Maybe the Mole can answer this question... but I'm sure someone else has to know... I was thinking as to why the reasons orders go from 3000, to 3300, to 3400 is so screwed up. Some people its weeks, some people its days. Now, is it maybe because on morning they decide "Hey boys, we're making Black SS2's all day with Orange seats and tomorrow Black with Black seats" and they just churn out a bunch of one set of major options (i.e. ss1 vs ss2)???? Or is car 1 this morning a red LT2 and car 3 an IOM ss1 with orange seats and car 3 ABM SS2 with the body kit?

Might explain why some get built so much faster, they just get lucky and its RJT SS week and they're tacked on to the end of the mfg. list?

anyone, anyone, beuller, beuller?

Cars are not put out in batches. There is no rhyme or reason. The mole has told us this before as well as other insiders. It's like the lottery, when your time comes to win, you win. Until then, find something to occupy your time (and I don't mean this site, as great and addicting it is) or you will go absolutely NUTS!!

When I went to 3800 on June 9th, I thought the end was near, but it was just beginning!! Once you hit 3800 the hardest part of the wait takes place. Trust me.

its all in the computer. The computer probably assigns the build a number and depending on what its the system to get built the computer picks them. It probably picks the cars that will most maximize their build for the day or week.

lol, i know what your saying... i was just wondering if thats the hold up.

It would make sense if this was the case. If you ordered a specific combo of color/options and they just finished a run of those, it would make sense for a 3, 4,5 week wait to jump event codes... If its pot luck, then there'd be HUGE discrepancies in waits, theres gotta be SOME rhyme and reason to it all. I was just wondering if anyone knew...

As for going nuts, I'm ok... im actually taking a HP/Torque cut with this car... i'll enjoy killing my srt-10 motor and tranny for a few more weeks...

Yeah the Mole said that various colors and options and v-6 and v-8s come through the line with no rhyme or reason. It is almost like a bingo jumbler and when it drops a token that is the next car.

This is very typical of all manufacturing. If your car is held for weeks, it's possible that they are waiting for a specific set of parts to become available. They also have quality holds within each point on the line, meaning that if something doesn't look right, they pull it aside until one of the lead techs can look at it.

I'm betting it's just a fault of GM's. And your dealer's. Someone is sending the updates a little late.
