GM went from Chevrolet, Saturn, Pontiac, Buick, GMC, Hummer, Saab, and Cadillac to Chevrolet, Buick-GMC, and Cadillac. That's streamlined enough. Considering how the Buick-GMC sales channel has a 40% conquest rate and high ATP, plus Buick's unbridled success in China, there's really no reason for GM to fold it. It practically pays for itself.
Shouldn't most product lines pay for themselves? I thought that's how you turned a profit.

Toyota-Lexus
Ford-Lincoln
Nissan-Infinity
Chevy-Buick-GMC-Cadillac
IMHO- they don't need all four when two will do. They have the everyday brand (Chevy) and luxury brand (Cadillac).

I agree, and said GM should restructure well before the bailout. I don't see a need for Buick in the states, and Denali should just be a trim line for the chevy trucks/suvs.

Combined sales the GMT-900 has outsold the F150 but not individual nameplates.
Profit is the name of the game and right now GM is number 1 in size and number 3 in profit (VW is #1 and Ford is #2). How do you change that? Drop GMC and Buick. As stated, there is no real difference between GMC trucks and Chevy truck (as far as I can tell). Whatever differences there might be are minuscule at best. They can certainly be rolled into the Chevy as an option. Buick, take the top sellers and rebadge them. Now not only are you saving money in production but you don't need a separate marketing/advertising team or overpaid executives. Again, this is just my opinion.

And xedes I agree. I personally don't think gm needs 4 brands still.

Complain all you want, it's not going away. Both brands are highly profitable. That's more than enough incentive for GM to keep them.

The F150 is the #1 selling vehicle in the United States for 24 years straight. It's the #1 selling truck in the world for 34 years straight.

Ford groups all F-series trucks under F-series. They make no distinction in sales reports for the Super Duties. GM and Ram do the same.

I misread something and came back to correct myself. You're 100% correct.

Yeah Fenwick kinda knows his stuff when it comes to GM. I will side with him on this one. Yeah, it seems GMC and Buick are unneeded, but in reality if people dont want to pay for Cadillac and want a little more luxury than a Chevy, they turn to Buick. Same for GMCs, more upscale Chevys. And i think the "9 NEW Models" title is a little bit of a misnomer. They are really all just facelifts and new body styles correct? Personally, when i hear new models, i think of concepts becoming reality. theres my 2 cents
