another Hurst question

My Camaro has the factory Hurst in it. But, I like the look of the aftermarket flat chrome stick. My question is can I buy the Aftermarket to replace it? I know that is a stupid question. I was reading and I saw somewhere that the Factory Hurst is a complete different assembly and that the aftermarket stick won't work. I just need that cleared up for me. Thanks..

Yes - but you have to buy the whole Hurst aftermarket shifter (p/n 3916030). You just can't buy the chrome upper stick and expect it to bolt on because it won't.

Yea I knew I couldn't just buy the stick.. I was just told that the aftermarket shifter wouldn't work with the Factory Hurst assembly.. Thank you for clearing that up for me.

No problem. The cast aluminum carrier (bracket/housing that connects the shift lever to the transmission) is different. But those differences are on the top side of the carrier.

Thus, an aftermarket Hurst shifter will fit into a GM/Hurst factory carrier (because it's bolted in from the bottom side). But a GM/Hurst factory lever will not fit properly into a normal factory carrier.

Why can't you? Is it just harder to shift or what?
