Leave your stock mufflers -WHY!

I wanted to bring attention to all .....The factory muffler is a straight through design as I have found on every SS vehicle(TRAILBLAZER SS,CAMAROSS,HHRSS) I have ever worked on.

So why change your exhaust, how are guys claiming power differences by replacing them,,both good and bad...Please explain!

Just an observation -

Quiet!!!

The 4 catalytic converters up front and center resonators might play a small role!

1. They're ugly as sin (that alone is reason enough)!

2. Too quiet and tame.

3. More unnecesarry dead weight (18 lbs. each).

It will be quieter due to the holes in the pipe which allow sound to resonate within the jerry can.

Very cool pic and a good observation.

I'm considering changing them for 3 reasons. One is for cosmetic appearance as those mufflers look hanging below the car is not agreeable to me. The other reasons would be weight and sound.

I want to scare kids with my car and I cannot do that with the stock mufflers.

Of course , but with mufflers gone it sounds completely different.

I just want the smallest, smallest increase in noise. i wonder if headers would do it, but leave the rest stock.

Same here. This is why I posted... http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29979

If you remove the resonator you essentially have a straight pipe from the cats.

a week late for me! ahhhhh.
hey, what does the rest of it look like inside?
i do not think the inlet and outlet are directly connected.

edit... i copied and lightened the photo and can now see the "bulkhead" between the inlet/outlet.
what does the pipe look like on the other side?

also... you say dont remove but what did you remove this off of? were you testing different muffs on the dyno or was this leftover from customer work?

BTW... thanks so much for the info.
I had an exhaust shop delete mine and now i feel less SOP power... got any thoughts on that?

THX!
