Off the line, maybe not. But there's also shift points to consider.. and the fact that I have to learn them still?

Good for you, kneejerking to someones statement about their first time ever on a track. It's also my first stick shift car.

Thanks.

Do I know more about 4th gens? No, I've got much to learn. Do you want to enlighten me or Xanthos on the finer points of ring and pinion gear selection when 4.10s weren't even on the table?

There's a reason he stopped at 3.73s.

LT1 != LS1 though. I only get 20-21 on the highway with 3.73s, with cruise control set at the speed limit (70 mph) - more like 18-19 when I'm going with the flow of traffic - 4.33s would be far and away out of the question. Also, since I don't plan on using slicks, I don't think 4.33s would be viable from a traction stand point. I had enough of a time getting my 3.73s to hook (best 60' of 2.11, though my worst was only 2.25), so I don't think I'm unjustified in thinking that the 4.33s would be hard to keep from spinning. Same thing with 4.10s.

That's why the only two options in the poll are 3.42 and 3.73 - I definitely don't want to go any higher than I already am - I thought that would be obvious, considering I'm thinking of stepping down a gear ratio to the 3.42s.

I put a 3.73 in my 2000 SS SLP I am very happy with it, it moves nice out of the start. and it drives really nice when I am riding around town.

I replaced the 3.07's in my 69 (95 Z/28 LT1/4L60E) with 3.73's. It is great to drive around town but I missed my rebuild goal of 20 mpg highway. Best 60ft today is 1.992s with Nitto 555R drag radials (see avatar). I think I can improve it with a higher rpm launch.

I think the 3.42 would have been a better choice for me.

I vote to go with 3.42's because your traction can get better if you upgrade
your tires and practice.
It definitley takes seat time at the track to get your 60 foot times down.
