It drives me crazy when cars with regular street treaded front tires drives right through the water. Then the next car (usually me) gets a nice wet track for their run.
Yikes! I am one of those guys. I did not think about the front tires causing problems. I will do better next time.

Many don't know and that's okay. Also, some tracks aren't set up to let you go around the water.
But if you can go around the water, that's the best thing to do. You don't want to get your front tires wet if you don't have to.

Cars with skinnies or race tires up front don't pick up the water like regular street tires.

Glad we helped you GRS. Yeah full treaded front tires will drag water up to the line, and negate the some of the value of heating up your tires in the first place.

Other thing I'd say about burnouts is keep the rpms up in the beginning. Nothing like watching a guy start the burnout at a low rpm and then get some one tire fire.

Another trick I do is I angle my passenger side mirror so I can see if smoke is coming off the tire.

If I"m at the track by myself, and I have street tires up front, I roll around the water. I pop the door open and watch myself how far I'm in the water. One quick spin, pull to the front of the water line, hit the tires. I close the door before I hit the tires.
