It's the Pulley not the Tensioner
Most camaros as they enter their 5 plus years have issues with the tensioner pulley. General Motors is notorious for plastic pulleys, where the so called sealed bearings dry out and the pulley starts to squeak or seize up. This causes the belt to ride off or snap. It is a very simple fix. You don't need the tensioner, just the pulley,(wheel) itself. Replace with a metal one instead of the cheap plastic. NAPA makes an excellent pulley that comes with a dust shield to prevent dust, dirt and moisture from contaminating the seal. They are left hand threaded. You use a bar to release the pressure of the tensioner, right turn to remove the center bolt on pulley. Side off old, put on new and left turn bolt to tighten pulley. Reinstall belt and you are done. You would think GM would change vendors as this problem has existed since the 90's. Hope this helps
