Preliminary Order to Actual Order Question

A couple of Thursday's ago, I went down to a dealer that said he had allocations and would give me MSRP, when I got there he indicated that he actually had a consignment for an allocation and would be getting the actual allocation within the next 2 weeks. I placed the order and was given a preliminary order detail and an order #, on the top it say GM Orderworkbench. So I called yesterday to see if the allocation was granted, they indicated it would be ordered Thursday, I asked them to call when they got the order #, they said they would call when they got the VIN #, I said, no, I want you to call when you get the order # so I can track it.

However, when I looked at the preliminary order detail, there is an Order #, so my question is, will this be the same number when the order is actually placed or do they assign a new order #?

When you ordered the car at the dealer (whether he had allocations or not) there is an order number almost immediately. It's a six character order number mine is NJWQ1V. At the point the dealership orders your car in the system there is an order # and you are at 1100 in the event status. The only way you don't have an order number yet, is the dealer has not placed the order yet. I believe you will stay at 1100 until your dealer has an allocation. If he has allocation you will move to 3000 within a week or so, if he has no allocation your order will be bogged down for weeks or months until he has an allocation for your order. The same 6 character order number stays with your car until it's delivered. So you have the order # already, it won't change. But....the dealerships are the only people who have access to the workbench history. You cannot track the progress, your dealer (or any dealer) has to and then pass the info on to you.

Thanks, I just read some other threads that say the same thing you just told me. I placed the order directly with the sales manager, I doubt he will want to hear from me as often as I would want an update.

Your order will get accepted right away and will go to 1100 status. now if he does have an allocation for this month or next whatever he said you should be moving to 3000 pretty soon. He could have stated that he had an allocation but it might before aug or sep, you never know. Now if he has an allocation it probably matters what order you are in line for him. I think i was 5 of 6 for the month of june and mine is currently being built and should arrive in the next 2-3 weeks hopefully. So good luck

He indicated that he received 3 and I will be the first. The order is to be placed Thursday, so I'm assuming his allocations came through. Really Really hoping 6 weeks, think Labor Day is more likely, but wont be surprised if later. Thanks for the help

you got probably got julys allocation if thats truly the case you should be to 3000 very shortly. I would expect it by labor day
