Don't worry about it. Everything is fine. In the future, check your oil more often. Letting it happen like that repeatedly may reduce the life of your engine.
I had basically the same thing happen to my 2002 GMC Sierra's 5.3 V8. It was relatively new when it sprung an oil leak from a faulty seal. A light came on saying "low engine oil" and I didn't believe it. I figured the oil level sensor was broken. I made an appointment, not in any hurry, and when I picked up up they said it had been completely dry, totally out of oil. I don't know how long I had driven it like that. It now has 193,000 miles on it and runs great.

Just traded in our '02 Avalanche and had a gone through some serious oil burns. Did some research and read up on it best guess everyone had was we tried synethic oil and that was when we had burn issues. The switch however wad also a factor I believe. Just a story not sure if it helps point it out.

Nope... Not overfilled... capacity is 6 quarts with filter change. And I always change out old oil before I put my cars up for the winter (320 miles or not). It's what I do. Never leave any used oil in motor before you store it. Some people are concerned about moisture in oil from storage but it will burn off shortly after you run it.

My V6 is going thru the oil, about the same as everyone else is reporting. I drive a lot on the highway; not hard just a lot. Currently I have 14k on the vehicle. Changed the oil three times, added at least 1.5 quarts over the 14k. Running Mobile 1. I'm one of those frequent under the hood checkers. This vehicle is going through a lot of oil. Suggestions/comments anyone?

There was an overactive lifter issue on earlier engines that caused them to have blue smoke out of the tail pipe.

Mine was burning off a quart per 3000 miles when new, changed oil at 3k, 6 k 9 ...after about 12000 miles, it stopped burning oil, now at 23000, the same, no oil loss over a 10000 mile intervial oil change.. I did switch to synthetic about the 3rd oil change... maybe they just take time to break in, but after driving for a year now, No oil burning off or low oil levels anymore

TWO LOCAL GM DEALER TOLD ME THAT GM WARR ON OIL USAGE IS IF IT GOES , 1,500 miles, and no usage its not warr issue but if it uses oil under the 1,500 mark it has to be varified by them first and would be warr issue.--My 2010 v6 used a quart in the first 1,200 miles and i toped it off and its been no usage at all since then

I have a 2011 Camaro LT and I drive around 110 mile a day. I have almost 50,000 miles on my Camaro. I just changed my oil and it was at 27% oil life and I only had 2 1/2 quarts of oil in the engine. I am burning a lot of oil, but I assume it is due to the amount of miles I drive each day.

I suggest you check the oil level more often for one thing.

What is the minimum amount of oil I should be running on? I assume at 2 1/2 quarts that is a really bad thing.

Any time you run the engine low on oil you risk serious damage. Your dipstick has the safe area marked, which is one quart, if it is below that add oil to bring it back to the safe level. If you don't have any oil showing on the dipstick at all you have a real issue you need to take care of before driving any more. Since the V6 holds 6 quarts 5 quarts should be safe.
