Another ECM Issue for 2011 Camaro SS

I realize most of you know the questions by heart but please be kind. On the SS it appears that once again my ecm is needing a replacement. It started as soon as the temp dropped below freezing. Wants to start when it feels like it, Fuel indicator also only works when it feels like it as well. I did replace the unit when I was stationed in California. Now that I am here In NY nothing works! this was 8000 miles ago. I tried to reach some other members here regarding this matter but they are mostly Gone from this place. Now that I am a member I want to ask one thing HELP! One clue I had a ground issue hopefully unrelated to ecm, it was the passenger headlight ground became unattached and kept giving me relay clicks in the fuse box. Fix the ground and one week later the ecm took a dive. I was told by several rebuilders that the ecm can not be repaired because of defective packing inside the unit used in this year? I just hate doing this job again and prices have doubled for a reflashed one. Once again the generic software these rebuilders use will trigger another issue on installation and having the locksmith come here to reflash and recode it will also have to be done. Any advise?

Not sure how you are tying your symptoms to the ECM being bad. Wants to start when it wants to could be many things. Have you checked fuel pressure.? Pulled engine codes? Put a scanner on it that can read live data?

I also don’t know what you mean by generic software to program the module.

My best guess is that you either have a wiring problem leading to the ECM or you possibly do have a bad ECM. The only way I know to check this is to do what Gunn did in the other thread that you posted in and jump power to the correct ECM pins, with everything else disconnected and see if it blows the fuse. If you aren't good with electrical work, you probably need to find a good diagnostic mechanic. You need to attempt to track down why this is happening since there haven't been a lot of reports of bad ECM's, so two in a few months would indicate another problem.

But maybe we are reaching the life of these ECM's and will start seeing a lot of problems.

I would probably give Flagship 1 a try if you order another ECM. Although it took a long time to get the one I ordered (for a different GM Car, fairly rare ECM) so far it has worked just like they said it would.

I bought a refurbed ECM for my old Jeep Grand Cherokee from flagship 1 about 3 years ago. My experience was nothing but positive. Had it in less than a week and it fixed all the issues I was having.

I assume you confirmed auto vs manual on the transmission?

I think the service number is the same between the auto and the manual and you can't mix them without them being completely reprogrammed. Maybe your locksmith can do that, but it's not just a key relearn. It will need to be completely reprogrammed with GM SPS.

But I'm not 100% sure about the service # being the same, if that is the number you are using.

Check with some local garages and see if there is a mobile programing service they use. They will be able to program/reflash and guarantee their work.

It looks like new from GM is about $250? If you have someone to program it, I would go that route.
