IAT relocation

Did the relocation, I put it in the snorkel on the fender side away from the radiator and fans. This really reduced my IAT readings on the dashhawk, and when the car heatsoaks, it almost instantly gets back close to ambient, but I'd discovered something else. Has anyone else using the dashhawk noticed some wacky ambient readings thru the dashhawk after the mod? Pre-mod, my ambient readings thru the DH were usually a bit lower then what the radio is saying, like 5 degrees or so. I just chalked it up to the DH probably getting it's feedback from a different sensor then the radio. After the mod, I'm getting pretty low readings, like today for example the radio is saying 82, my IATs are around 72 and the ambient thru the DH has said as low as 59? The car feels good and runs good, but that seems a bit off to me. Anybody have any ideas?

I never used my DashHawk for the ambient, left that up to the car, lol.

sensor

give it a try, they must reference a different sensor, cause the readings will be different. Post relocation, the readings are drastically different. Moving in clean air, my ambient is reading in the high 50s, low 60s, while ambient via the radio and actual is in the 80s. Somehow, after adding the new sensor, the voltage to the ambient sensor must be effected.

I'm back at factory location with my IAT for now. Although performance seems to have suffered. I'll give the DashHawk a look see with the ambient air temp though!

Interesting... few times I checked mine, like in the morning before even starting the car, all three temps would agree, IAT, AAT and Radio...

I now that my IATs would drop below the Radio Ambient... I was concerned at first, but everything I read said IAT sensors aren't particularly accurate....

Seems odd the AAT sensor would be tied the IAT sensor... unless it uses the IAT sensor as a reference point...

Could be? As long as it runs I don't care!

runs

I agree that I don't understand it as well. What I initially wondered, is if the new IAT was showing too cool a temp vs real ambient, would the engine be tricked into adding a bunch of timing thinking it was cool, and then knock it's @ss off, but I have done some wide open runs when I'm reading cooler IATs then the radio is saying, and it isn't particularly pulling a bunch of timing, pretty much like before. It will bounce between 0 and 1 degree of retard, with the occassional bounce to 3 and back to 0. But I am running 87 octane currently so that seems about normal.

Pretty much what I found as far as pulling timing... so to me it was all good...
