VA sucks. All the cops do is hide in the trees on the side of 95 just waiting to nail you. I never unplug my radar detector while I'm driving through for that specific reason.

That.. would suck. Just another reason why I have no inclination to ever live East of the Mississippi.

Glad I don't own a ZL1! It's amazing some of the truckies trucking down or up I-81 near where I live don't wind up in jail. Actually the speed limit on either side of Roanoke spur I-581 is 70. But approaching 581, it drops to 65 then 60 pretty fast. I was out cruising yesterday north of 581 and in a 20 mile stretch of 81 saw no less than 10 police cruisers either lurking in the shadows or already making friends with law breakers on the side of the road. Fortunately I was driving conservatively trying to see how much I could stretch a gallon of gas.

Good read. I know it has happened to a few people on this board. When I drive in VA, I try to tow the line, although I keep my radar detector on (it has stealth, making it invisible to radar detector detectors).

I got nailed a couple of years ago on the way to Florida in my vette doing 92 in a 70 on I-77. Got a summons to appear in court for reckless driving and had to hire a lawyer to represent me. The lawyer got it plead down to improper driving and in total it cost me around $900.

Ouch!!
Got my first ticket while a student a virginia tech. Got pulled doing 81 in a 55. Was going much faster but my girlfriend complained so i slowed down. Cop was nice, wrote me for 74 instead to avoid the wreckless charge and told me to plea for driving school and probation. I did as he said and the judge agreed.
Bottom line, virginia does suck for speeding.
Have to take it to the track!

Tony

I never go more than 7 over in Va. They must need $$ real bad. Everyone I know has been tagged on I95.

That's a bit much isn't it? The guy was on a rural backroad on a big straightaway.

I have nothing to prove at this point in my career so drivers that I pull over for speeding are given my speech that leaves everyone smiling. If you're alone I ask for a valid excuse for me to give you a break. 99% of the time saying I'm sorry does the job. By now you're probably wondering about that small percentage where the kid says "I think you should give mommy or daddy a ticket because driving too fast is bad". Let's just say on two occasions there was a 10 second pause in the universe where even I was caught off guard. Quick thinking had me ask dad to exit the vehicle to the rear. It was hard for the both of us to keep a straight face. All I said was "go easy on the kid, and bolted out of there with dad explaining to junior that mr policeman had an emergency and had to leave so he didn't have time to write a ticket for speeding and gave dad a warning instead. Lol........Have fun and live life abundantly.

It does suck going through that state. They love to pray on people going to bristol in august. It's insane on 81 that weekend.

55mph, really?

i would fall asleep twice everyday. But then again, 10 oder 20 mph more doesn't make it that much better...
