trouble with CAI install.

Ordered a CAI INC cai from apex, thanks btw, and received it yesterday. I tried installing it today and I'm almost done. Just need to put the lid on and that's it. Can't get the lid on though?? Seems like the fasteners don't line up.. any idea of what I could have done wrong?

It's a pain in the ass.

Check you box install and reposition it.

That should help it seat better.

I tried.. you're only supposed to use one of the bolts to hold in place right?

The box is just attached in one spot, yes. If you think you have it in where it belongs, good, otherwise post a pic. The lid can be a little tight. The other thing is to make sure you slide the lid in between in the little lip on the top of the front driver quarter panel. Once you get it in there the rest should be OK. Zoom in on this pic and you can see how the rubber on the right side tucks in between: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/album....ctureid=111301

Thanks for your order. What is described below is often what the problem is when people have lid issues.

OP - Thanks for choosing Cold Air Inductions Inc.

The lid was attached to the air box when you received it, so the good thing is that you know it fits. Check to make sure the rubber engine bay trim is not interfering with it (if it is you may need to slide the rubber trim over a little on the front of the engine bay) and that it is slid into the groove on the inner fender well. Also you can loosen the air box nut and move it out a little bit, attach the lid, then slide it back into place and tighten the air box back down. The important thing is to not force things and not to bend the box, also do not force the 1/4 fasteners or you can bend the retaining clips. If the fasteners are not locking into place easily then something is not aligned or the lid is not pushed down all the way, so forcing it will only make it worse. Follow those guidelines and you should be able to get it on fairly easily!

I hope that helps.

Thanks everybody.. my manager helped me out and we got it done.we pulled the engine bay trim off enough to where the lid would fit, we tightened the fasteners and then placed the trim back once the lid was on. Thing sounds like a BEAST

It is not plastic it is actually silicone. Silicone has good thermal properties to reduce heat soak. It is also rigid enough to where airflow is not greatly effected, yet still has the flexibility needed to ensure there is a tolerance for movement since it is attached to the engine which does move during acceleration.

Hope that helps!

Just to expand a touch on the above, the airbox is attached to the non-moving body while the engine flexes during accel/decel. There has to be flexibility to allow for the changes in orientation between the two or the tube would tear itself apart.
