MY 2010 LS does this on cold starts and on re-starts after the car sits 30 min or more. Took it to the dealer and they said

Really would like to know what parameters trip this car into cold start mode.
Maybe I have a sensor that is off some.

Yes, my 2011 2LT (only 4,225 miles) has a little more rumble at start up that sounds good but levels out after driven about 1 mile. Also have a 1998 Buick Riviera supercharged, low mileage, driven less than 1500 miles per year. I have this car checked out bumper to bumper each Nov. before it goes into winter storage and exhaust system is in excellent conditon. Over the years the exhaust sound has become a little deeper with age which I also like.

I don't recall the exhaust sounding better or louder in the morning when I had my 1LT/RS, but I know that it always ran very nice on a nice, cool morning.

THIS.

Its perfectly normal people. When the car has sat for for enough time, during the car startup the rpms will raise to around 1,000 to 1,100 rpm and the fuel mixture is a tad more rich (from what I understand) and it will do this for about 30+ seconds. This is to heat up the cats...its totally an emissions thing.

and yes...it always sounds much better than regular idling and can be pretty loud with aftermarket exhausts.

Any reason for this? I am just assuming this is due to the car being in the warm up stages when first started it off, then after having driven it a bit and starting it again it doesn't need to do the warm up so it sounds more regular? Am I right on this?

It's not just stock V6 engines that do that. Every car sounds best at "cold startup". Once the car gets warm and everything is jiving together, you lose some of that sound.

That's just how it is...you aren't imagining it though. I love the way my SS sounds after sitting for awhile.

Yep. Most every car I've owned does this in some fashion. Although I must admit that my LFX performs the most 'pronounced' warm up routine of any car I've owned.

Cherish it.
