..Anyone want to tell me why it's ever a good idea to repack a bearing that's been in a 50mph side impact on the axle?

Because it's not. Even if the mechanic won't admit it.

He just bought 70 bucks worth of rear end juice if that thing started making metal inside my axle housing. And a nice 0 mile GM 10 bolt factory rear if that metal came from the lands.

hopefully you will be rolling again soon! (in a normal way, not end over end)

did he at least check the axle tubes for straightness? and check the ID of the tubes to verify they werent out of round?

reusing axle bearings from an accident... noooooo.

shoulda rebuilt the whole friggin rear while the body man was on vacation.

~$800.00 and I coulda had you set up with the strongest 10 bolt you'll ever see.

lmk if you are interested

Believe you me, the look on my face was enough to get the point across. And spike I would have rebuilt the thing if I wasn't overbudget already. Word is that it should be done today if its the bearing. The alignment shop is doing dimensions and tearing her down for an inspection. Same place I took it to last march for two new rear bearings.

for the money you spent, you coulda bought a rolling chassis and swapped the motor and trans over.

just sayin.

but as for the rear end beef up.. less than a grand to make the 10 bolt bullet proof vs $2500 for a 12 bolt, 9", or S60

For what it's worth.. I think I wound up with a better end result than swapping the driveline into a 'crapshoot' body with who knows what history it's had.

But remember, we did consider it at a point. It's just the direction we went was this one.

I give you 99.8%:

X2 I don't care if I get pulled over, my front license plate is in my windsheild. the worst that will happen is I'll get a warning and be told to get a license plate mount.

Paint's flaking on the cover, that's why I've stopped using it. Eventually gonna sand and recoat the cover sometime this winter when I do the run of the mill 'paint the birdie' mod.

Once they drop the front plate law here, it's obviously going back on so I gotta get on that.. <_<

you think...

TBH you ended up with a frame that is "weakened" even tho its now straight which nets you with a "crapshoot" body that you know its history.

kinda like banging a chick without a rubber vs banging a chick that you know has the clap.

you take a chance either way, but just because you know about it, doesnt mean its the best route to take.

again, just being completely honest.
