What is the best way to connect two different gauges of wire?
The wiring I have for the led scanner and the fuse connector (sorry can't think of the name) that prevents electrical damages are two different gauges of wire. The fuse wiring is pretty thick whereas the scanner wiring is not. What is the best way to connect these? Sorry, typing this quickly as I have to get out the door ...thanks in advance.

Solder, then use some shrink tube to cover it.

If they do not have to come apart again use a non-insulated reducing butt splice
http://www.mcmaster.com/#butt-splices/=mzsz15 Crimp for the mechanical connection then solder for the electrical, then double heat shrink for strain relief and moisture resistance. That connection will last longer than the car. If they have to come part again (and assuming awg 12-18) get a starter weather pack connector kit and use a 1 wire connector and connect the wires that way. |

Im a marine tech. Solder and heatshrink are the only way to go. Anything else is like renting the connection.

The LED Scanner draws very little current, You don't need to use a fuse with large wire, I would buy a fuse with smaller wire , then like Thumper said, solder and hear shrink
