I think GM is doing this with the autos on all their cars with paddles now. I bought my wife a CTS a few months ago and accidentally I hit one of the paddles and it down shifted. I thought you had to be in manual mode so I was surprised. It seems to be normal.

Just to clarify, I pressed the paddle shifter for 30 sec while I was driving over 20 miles and keep in mind that the shifter was I D at all times- so the question, is it normal to switch to manual while shifter is in the D position?

Oh, I think I finally got you. To my recollection, the paddle shifters don't work in D. You must be in M or sport for it to work. (at least in an auto SS)

Like I said in a previous post. I bought my wife a 2011 Cadillac CTS with the auto and paddle shifters. When it is in D (you can put it in manual mode also) you can hit the paddle shifter and it will down shift or up shift depending on what paddle you hit. I think this is normal on GM cars now, I am guessing.

You are correct sir. It will revert if no activity while in normal mode. Started with the 2011
