It's not a mechanical speed limit, it's a computer limit. It can be turned up or off with a tuner. From other thread discussions, a stock car won't reach much higher than 170-175. I haven't personally tested this yet but others seem to have.

That is completely incorrect. The auto comes with the 3.27s so going to 3.73 make a big difference. There is no limit on the 4.10s. They may shave a few MPH off the top end, but no where close to 40-50 MPH.

... it was in the form of a question!
i had an 87 GTA that i built for the strip and street which ran 10.23 @132mph
car had 383ci stoker, blower, 411 auburn rear amoung other mods and it would top out a 140ish ... beyond 135 it was hitting a wall.

Is the increase in pinion speed with 4.11's enough to worry about oil cooling the differential? What would the rpm's be at 80 mph in 6th with 4.11's? I had a 4.56 spare pumpkin made for my 73 corvette and had 4.56's in my 68 Camaro, and it definitely made highway cruising more of a "buzz", but the stoplight to stoplight giddiup was way more fun!

Low 2000s. At 70-75 its right at 2000 rpm with the Richmond 4.10s.

I contacted Motive and they said they have a 3.91 and 4.10 in the works which should be available in the fall but haven't decided on prices yet.

We are all over the new Motive stuff and will have that along with the Richmond gears that we currently stock as soon as they are available.

So should we wait for 3.91 gears to come out if we have the automatic? Which is better in your opinion 3.73 or 3.91? Thanks!

I would go with 3.73s. The automatic transmission is already geared pretty aggressively and 3.91 will probably be too much for most people.
