Never been to the track??
Just wondering if you guys who've never taken your Camaro to the track, do you feel like you've been able to push this car to it's limits?
Do you have any favorite roads where you feel you can push this car & not be a danger to your fellow motorist? |

There are quite a few secluded roads that I can push the car to but, I don't go all-out. If I had a drag strip in my backyard, I prolly wouldn't even go, then. Now if I had a road course near by, I'd be all over that.
For what it's worth, I've done both but, I'm done with the whole drag racing thing.

Unless you have done 1000's of laps in the car, I doubt you are anywhere near the limits, not a chance on 50%....Here is the lap time progression at Laguna Seca after close to 1200 laps, and I was an experienced driver long beforehand.
First time 1:58XX End of first day 1:55xx (TEMPS MID 50'S) Second time 1:55-1:56 (TEMPS MID 50'S) 6th time 1:52-1:54 (TEMPS MID 50'S) 20th time 1:48 Consistent (temps 60's) (out of brakes) 25th time Brake limited at 1:46 consistent (race brakes overheating all day) (temps mid 60's) 30 time zl1 brake upgrade 1:47 consistent (Stock ZL1 pads slower than 4 piston race setup) Now 1:42-1:43 (zl1 race bakes and fully ducted)( Lap times are limited by the tires at 70 degree temps) So there is my 2 cents....I am at the limits, as I am out of tire grip (eagle F1G2's) and it take a LOT of wheel/track time to be comfortable where I am. I have taken dozens of camaro owners for ride alongs, first thing they all say is that I am psycho then they get back in there own cars and are comfortable pushing much harder. Find some that knows the car and go for a ride........ |

I run pretty hard on quiet twisty back roads, but no where near the limit. I'd love to get it out on a track someday. I have run Laguna Seca thousands of laps, in various racing games over the past 25 years.

Haha yeah I bet. No matter how good the game and your wheel/pedal setup is, it can't give you the elevation changes.

My first laps at Laguna were on a motorcycle. I had walked the track first, and took the 'Screw slowly the first few laps, but it scared the crap out if me each and every time I came around. Wicked corner that one.

I've lived in the same house for almost 37 years, so I've become pretty familiar with all the local challenging turns and turn sequences (there are several). Over that entire time, I've encountered maybe a handful of drivers running at or slightly beyond "5/10ths". 7/10ths (I think that's about where I'm driving toward the end of an "out lap" at a later-in-the-day track day session) would run away and hide from them. And there are people who can jump into the driver's seat of my car and with only a lap or two for familiarization drive it faster than I can. Norm

You can't get anywhere near the 1le's limits on the street, also you probably shouldn't try to. It really is a fast car in the right hands.
