Help! Can the radio go into protect mode? I might be an idiot...
I spent all of President's Day ripping out the interior of my car running new wire and speakers. Got it all installed and checked my wiring and it was working fine. Late at night I was tired and soldered the last wire to my MTX RE-Q5. Turned on the car...no sound. Both amps and the RE-Q turn on when expected but nothing. Here is what I TRIED to do: Turns out I wasn't paying attention and ran an output from the Alpine 4 channel into the speaker level output of the head unit. So basically I was sending 50 watts right at the output of the head unit. I've never done that before, but it can't be good. Didn't get any smoke or weird smells but its not working now... Any suggestions on how to reset the radio? Could it have gone into some sort of protection mode like amps will or did I fry the damn thing? |

That does sound bad.
Did you check all your fuses? |

I'm trying to find out where the fuses are for the radio. I've seen people say they are in the trunk, but I got the base stereo so I could build a nice one myself (seems to have gone well!) not sure if its the same as teh BA radio.
I get display showing XM or CD playing but no sound at all so I don't know how it could be a fuse anyway... |

Did this ever get resolved? I've run into a similar situation. Radio acts as if nothing is wrong and tries to play but I get no sound. I've checked the outputs with a multi meter and confirm 0V on all channels.

I definitely fried some circuitry in there man. I'd assume the internal amp but who knows. At any rate, the only resolution was to pick up someone's old radio from here when they went aftermarket. Then had the deal reprogram the computer to accept it.
You'll know the replacement radio and wiring is working because the turnsignals and car dings will all work but the radio itself won't run until the computer is programmed to accept the new one.
