Better MPG
I don't want this to turn into an Airaid pissing match lol. Just thought I would share a little info. I have seen posts in the past about mpg dropping after some installed an Airaid. I did not post in them even though I did see a drop in mpg. I was thinking it was just from driving with a heavy foot hehe. Before I installed my Airaid I was getting around 20 mpg in the city. After I installed the Airaid I dropped to around 17 mpg in the city. I have always ran 87 octane in my car. With all the talk about the AFR movement with Airaid installed I figured I would fill up with 93 octane. After filling up I drove for around 20 miles before I reset it. After a few days of driving I am at 20.4 mpg. I reset it again and drove for 2 days and I'm at 20.5 now. I have not been on the highway yet. This is all city driving. I can't say that I feel a difference in the car. Just better mpg.

I only get like 18 city. Stock everything except exhaust. It's the damn exhaust's fault though- hard takeoff sound is addicting!

If you don't get on it bolt on mods should increase MPG. My old maxima got 28 on the highway stock, after bolt ons at like 55-65 MPG I achieved up to 35 MPG.

??? Not sure how that relates to a V6 MPG thread? I think Vector is only testing the tranny part of tuning a V6... and as far as I can tell, that's really not going to affect MPG...

SNV- What RPMs are you shifting at generally? I have just the Airaid installed and try to shift as low as possible but I'm getting like 17 MPG with all city driving.

I have an auto trans. So no shifting for me hehe. Just for kicks you should run your tank low and try running higher octane. Let us know if it changes.

I have also noticed an improvement in MPG when running premium fuel. I'm not ready to give stats on it yet, just a very unofficial "I think so".
Here's a question: I've heard people say that you should perform a fuse pull when switching to premium so that the computer goes into learn more right away. I don't quite understand why that would matter and I'm wondering if anyone thinks that would be a good idea or not a good idea. I made the switch to see if the knock retard would lessen, and then noticed the MPG difference in the DIC quite incidentally. -Dave |
