Clutch Problem?

Was just curious if you guys may know what happened as I wait for a tow truck.

I was driving my 2011 SS with a hurst shifter when I suddenly heard a pop when changing from 1st to 2nd gear. I was in higher revs in 1st gear before switching and I believe the pop may have been before the actual shift. Now I can let the clutch out completely and the car will still run. It will not kill it. You can also hear a "whirling" sound when attempting to take off as well (with the clutched disengaged). The car will hardly move. I can enter any gear normally, however. Any suggestions on what it might be? The car has 33901 miles on it. Possibly covered under warranty? My driving habits are nothing out of the ordinary. I drive normally and never really race it. I get on it every once in a while but nothing crazy. I'm decent with a stick as well. Any idea what it could be?

Thanks in advance!

Should be covered under warranty depending when the car was sold in 2011.
Take it to the dealership, they will take care off it.
IMHO

Yeah, the warranty is up in April I do believe. Just hope it's covered.

kinda seems like the pressure plate is misaligned and the fingers are only applying force on one spot..or a flywheel problem

clutch, throwout bearing and pressure plate are not covered items if I'm not mistaken.

Good luck, but I don't think "normal wear and tear" items such as a clutch (and some of its associated components) are warranty items. Although you'd think they would last longer than 33K miles, it would be tough to prove it wasn't a driver-oriented cause that made them fail. Not saying it was, mind you... just hard to determine.

Doesnt sound like a busted clutch to me...i had this happen to me in 2012 with mine and it was a broken axle.

I'm not going to lie and say I wasn't being hard on the car, in fact I was taking a mustang buddy of mine for a quick little ride for the first time since he had never been in a 5th gen before and he asked me.

Anyways, I punched it from about 10km/h in 1st gear and on the 1-2 shift as soon as i let go of the clutch, like my foot wasnt even all the way off it yet I heard a sort of popping sound that echo'd through the whole car and then i could hear "whirring" sounds anytime i stepped on the gas with the car in gear. I was still able to move the car, but just barely. It was a broken axle. Yup...the drivers side outter axle splines literally twisted where the axle goes into the CV. The CV didnt let go or break, the actual splines from the axle let go..from a 1-2 shift!

To make matters worse, GM voided my powertrain warranty on the axle and made me PAY for a new axle and pay GM labour to RE-install it because they said the axle broke from misuse, not from being defective. My car was 100% stock when it happened.

Apparently when it comes to warranty, GM expects us to treat our Camaro SS like a Prius, which is what i said to them actually. My dealer put a super sour taste in my mouth and because of it, i refuse to bring my car to the dealer I bought my car from ever again.

I don't think it would be the clutch. I've never really burned the clutch. There was no burning of the clutch the night it happened. The clutch wasn't slipping either. You can kind of tell when your clutch is going out, ya know? It was perfectly fine before the "pop" so that's what has me thinking on what it could be? Pressure plate or flywheel? Maybe...

This sounds exactly like the op's issue.

It feels the whirling sound is coming from behind me. And it will reverse very very slowly. It's sitting at the dealership now. Won't hear anything until the later part of Monday probably.

Reread my post above...I'll bet money its an axle if you can still slightly move your car. Thats because of the LSD differential.
