Can't find a freaking stock exhaust
I was was rear-ended back in December (other driver at fault) and my car has been in the shop since. The car is finally ready except they need to replace the entire exhaust and they can't find the stock exhaust anywhere. I was wondering if someone can educate me on what exactly needs to be replaced when they say "the entire exhaust assembly needs to be replaced". I also told them to go find some after market stuff but they said that they can find after market exhaust but they need whatever connects the exhaust to the engine. What exactly is that? And is there no aftermarket part for that?
I am not very familiar with this stuff so just want to get some information on what exactly they need and what they are unable to find. Thanks. |

I can't imagine the entire exhaust needing replacing from a simple rear-ending.
Here's a quick read to get the idea of what is the entire exhaust system: http://www.2carpros.com/how_does_it_...ust_system.htm It sounds to me like they may be talking about the exhaust manifold, but that'd be messed up if a rear-end collision caused an issue all the way up there.

I am still a little confused as to what all needs to be replaced. I'm planning on going to the repair shop in the next couple of days so I can actually see first hand what they are talking about.
Thanks for the link Madcat0911. |

I have my stock cat back exhaust just taking up room in my garage. It's huge I don't how you'd ever ship something that large.

My guess is that since the stock exhaust is a single part form the Cat back then they are referring it to as the entire exhaust.

I have a stock exhaust off an SS/RS 6MT I'd be willing to part with, ready to ship.

That's what I thought too but if that's the case then there are tons of aftermarket cat back exhaust options. I need to clarify with the repair shop exactly ehat they need.

I am sure an aftermarket cat back will be cheaper than the stock exhaust from GM, if not, just split the difference and get a hell of a deal on a cat back.

You need to find EXACTLY what needs to be replaced. The entire system includes, header, cats, piping, resonators, H-pipe, mufflers, tips. That's pretty much it. Find out what, of those things, needs to be replaced. All can be bought aftermarket. TSP has the entire system for sale with LT headers to tips for $1700. That includes the cats too.

Got the PN
Talked to the guy at the repair shop today and he sent me the PN of what they want, the PN is 92242129. From what I can tell it's just the exhaust muffler that they need, can some one confirm? If that's the case then I can get an aftermarket exhaust ... maybe a Borla or a Corsa

If you want to stick with the stock parts you could give all the tuning stores a call...
Check out this post from the pedders event at fastlane: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showpo...2&postcount=35 I'm sure a lot of stores might be able to help you out! Good luck! |
