Who drives their 5th gen daily?
I currently have a 2011 Grand Cherokee. A few months back I purchased a lifted 2000 Cherokee Sport, Ive got a thing for those old 4.0L XJs. Anyway, I figured theres really no need for me to have two 4x4 vehicles. Im thinking about trading my 11 Grand Cherokee in for a 5th gen. It would be a daily driver except for bad weather when Id use the XJ. The car Im looking at is a certified preowned 10 1SS/RS 6spd with 12k miles. Im not new to F bodys. I have an 89 Iroc, was my first car and spends more time in the garage now than it should, had a few other first and second gen cars along the way. My question is who currently drives their 5th gen every day, how do you like it? What kind of MPG am I looking at. The Grand Cherokee isnt anything stellar on gas so its not a major concern of mine, just curious. Ive rented a few 6cylinder 5th gens on vacation for a week at a time and loved them.

I drive mine every day and love the car. My commute is only 4.5 miles to work though. My average speed is about 30 mph and average 15.8 mpg.
We take my wife's Jeep Grand Cherokee most places on the weekend. Rob |

I drive mine 60 miles a day round trip to work. I average about 20 MPG with a mix of 85/15 mix of hwy/city. It is the best part of my day. They make great daily drivers.

Mine is a daily driver but I think I need to reset my MPG because it includes a few track days so mine is 14.3... Lol! But a lot of my commute is a 25 minute drive during traffic all in the city with lots of red lights :( so that doesn't help either but the car is a great daily driver so it's worth it! If gas milage is really that important, I've heard some good things about the V6s! It seems like people are able to squeeze out a lot of power from those engines!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 Edit: Sorry I actually get 14.3 MPG but I only posted 12.3 because that's what the 1992 Cadillac Seville (also V8) gets and I got the numbers mixed up... :( Last edited by brettsimons; 02-03-2013 at 10:44 PM. |

I do have to say the V6 cars ive rented were great on gas. I average about 17 with the jeep. I figured the two to be some what similar mileage wise. Jeep is heavy and full time 4wd but V6, where as the camaro is lighter and rwd but V8. The V6 is nice but I want the V8 for the performance aspect..... and the sexy sound lol

Yes, if it counts because it's my only car-- but I take the train to work so it usually is only driven on weekends.

Daily driver for me. I'm 3.2 miles from work. Stop and go most of the way and I have a lead foot...13-14mpg.
