Well, it's not so much a blind spot as it is trying compensate for the distance distortion (objects are closer than they appear) in order to judge accurately how close that guy really is in the lane to your right, when you're in "tight quarters". And looking over my shoulder is not something I do frequently, but in over 40 years of driving, believe me, there are times when it's necessary.

The biggest thing is stopping the habit of twisting your head and looking before changing lanes.

Trust your (property adjusted) mirrors.

I used to turn twist my head around, but if you think about it, it's a real bad habit. The vehicle in front of you can stop in a second.

Also, back in when you can. Makes it easier than backing out.

Congrats on the new Camaro.

For backing into a parking space, I always stick my head out the window, and judge the drivers side that way, and this is after seeing how much room I have on the passenger side. No problems, and I back into 90% of all parking spots. Try it.

I'm surprised your complaining about the blind spot on the right side. I find the one on the left far worse. if you try to look over your shoulder you cant see out the back window because it's so small and there isn't any space between the seat and the door.

That's quite true, but on the left I find my properly adjusted left side mirror gives me a complete view of the entire rear area and adjacent lanes to judge accurately, so I rarely ever need to look over my LEFT shoulder. It's the perspective distortion of the right side mirror that makes judging other vehicle's distance to your rear bumper very, very difficult for safe lane changes.

And again, to remind everyone, this is not about backing into or out of parking spaces. This is about distance judgement of vehicles in the adjacent right lane.

yes, but I just look out the back window you can see everything behind you. on the right side it's possible because you can just look between the seats

I have to respectfully disagree. The sizable roof panel that's between the right rear window and the rear windshield is a sizable blind spot. It's similar to the '69 Dodge Charger because of a recessed rear windshield into the roof:

I, as well as pretty much everyone else, had this issue when I first got my car. The number one thing is to get both mirrors adjusted out wide so that your rear quarter panel is just out of sight and this should give you a good shot to any cars in your blind spot. When I first started driving my car I would let cars pass me on either side watching them in the mirror to see if I ever lost sight of them before they got to the side of me where I could see them out of the front window, if I didn't then I left the mirrors there and that also gave me the confidence to trust my mirrors which is what you have to do, put them in the right spot and then trust them. Essentially you have to drive these cars like a truck with a trailor where using your mirrors is a must. Backing up still sucks to this day but you get used to it.

Blind spots?

Don't any of you remember driving the customized vans of the 70's and early 80's when they were popular? (I know I can't be the only old fart on here.)

These were nothing but 1 Big blindspot.

Have there been any stories from anyone who has merged into someone because of these blind spots?
