Key Fob Coming Apart

... not really a section for this

My key fob is coming apart. I can push it back together and it will hold for about a day... then it slowly starts to open up again.

it gets open this much and wont go any further. It still works just fine.

Yes, I am one of these guys...http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49729

Question... Can I buy just the hardware for the outer shell (not the electronics)?

or, can I disassemble it and fix it without permanent damage?

Please don't respond with "take it to the dealer"... you obviously do not know me if you do.

Get a new one from your dealer, they are covered under your 3 year warranty.

lol... first reply says "take it to the dealer", I guess you didn't read my last line. But since everyone will say this, I will respond...

My dealer sucks a big one! (I could tell you why but there is not enough room on the page). I will gladly pay $20-$30 for the hardware just so I will not have to make the trip and deal with them for 2 hours and miss a half day of work.

Does everyone take the $20 stuff to the dealer?

You can't go to a different dealer? Also, it's not a $30 part, I think the fob is a hundred and something. Then you have to pay to get the key cut.

How the hell did you get your Key FOB beaten up that badly? It's no surprise it's falling apart. Sorry to say but the only way you are going to get it fixed is going to the dealer. Your key will have to be cut but after that point you can reprogram it yourself...

$70 to get a new key cut at the dealer. I'm not suggesting this, just saying what I was told at the dealer.
It'd be nice if you could get a new housing, that appears to be your only problem OP. Best of luck!

I do not want to get a new key cut. I don't want to get a new key programmed. That is a total ripoff. I want to replace the shell. I was hoping someone may have already done this... maybe I will have to be the first.

That's what I want to do. I wish someone had already done this so I wouldn't be going into it blindly.

Actually the key looks great. If you use super macro zoom with a nice camera it will show every little flaw.

Here is one using a camera phone without the super macro:

I've seen the 'new' fobs on ebay while I was searching for a different Key fob for my Nissan Pathfinder. You could buy one there and take it apart. Swap the internals and it should be good. Good luck.
