Captain Obvious speaking here: that's because there is no performance package or gear options on the SS. Bone Stock "plain jane" vs Bone Stock "plain jane" and the GT lost the 1/4 mile.

rumor is their truck motors might go OHC but their car engines will stay pushrod. Will employ DI, no shock their, and VVT. Lots of rumors that you will see 4v heads still using pushrods. Speculated this will be accomplished with either cam in cam technology or running 2 cams but keeping them in the block.

If they've invented an inexpensive engine block design that will accept both OHC and OHV confgurations....hell, they need to have engine designers everywhere kissing their feet...

EARLY on...they were working on a NorthStar replacement architecture. That's dead. (Or it died, I mean). So it's likely the Gen V will be one OR the other...Either way, they'll be DI AND E85-capable...which is neat.

I'm excited.

I dont follow. NHRA Stocker has never claimed 12.43 and camaro5 wont even put his corrected time on the official fast list. If he was being like a lot of others he would be going around claiming a 12.43@112.

BTW his best 60ft was only a 1.9.

Didn't nineball run a 13.1 his first time out with his LS3 2010? They are very close cars for sure. On paper the 5.0 should be faster though, that seems to be the reason mustang people are upset. GM has a lot of wiggle room for future improvements to really make the SS shine.

why would the Mustang be that much faster than the camaro on paper?? it weighs 240lbs less but also makes 14less hp.
I expect it to be just a tick faster. Its transmission gearing is going to make it QUICKER for sure in the quarter though, especially with proper race tires but still doable with street tires.

it still needs steeper gears than 3.73's though, something like 4.30's+ to compliment that 7000+rpm shift point.
