Simple, GMs 7.0 (427) makes 505 HP, while this 426 Mopar makes 540. i am sure this is just a first salvo, and how much do these 700+ hp crate engines cost?

then you must be one clueless individual. You blast Dodge for making a 540hp hemi insinuating that its weak, but when compared to a z06 engine of the same size it competes very well with it.

im sure the dodge engine is gonna cost more. We can all build old tech big blocks (Dodge, chevy and especially Ford) though that will easily surpass the power of both engines and even the ZR1 engine for MUCH MUCH less. naturally aspirated even. But im sure this 426hemi (and LS7) will have much better street manners and less maintenance than the ratty big powered n/a engines.

Is this a streetable motor? I didn't see where it said in that article. If it's streetable then those are pretty good numbers. That article just doesn't have enough info.

The lsx454r is race only and rated with 110octane fuel. 800-1000hp as a 'base engine' is unrealistic considering the competition. Even the zz572 monster engine is only rated at 720hp and that's with race fuel and it's listed at $18k.

they already have a 480+ HP 392 that is super streetable engine.common sense would say its very doubtable that it wouldnt be streetable given it displaces over a half liter more and only rated at 50hp more and probably without smog equipment to boot!

Has nothing to do with that, its furd I don't like.

Its the HP numbers for such a modern design and a legend of a motor.

they DO do some questionable things though, like build a full-sized challenger and a 4 door charger. But theyre good cars at least. I would have preferred they made a 2 door performance retro charger instead of the challenger but at least the chally looks nice.

It's a street motor that costs 14,000 dollars and produces HP and TQ numbers, NA, in the mid 500 range..what more do you want?

he actually expects 800-1000hp from an assembled crate engine offered by dodge. obviously his expectations only set him up for failure because they are unrealistic.

LOL, I am . My last jeep had a 350 in it and could smoke all 4 35inch tires. Of course it felt like you were going to die at 65mph on a straight road too. I miss that thing....../sigh.

I've got a 1970 GTX I'm going to give it a thought about. I was thinking of going 426 Hemi with the 6.1 block. But what I am told is that the valvetrain is hoakey on Mopar and ultra expensive to do right. The engine master was won by a 6.1 426 hemi and carb setup I think. But the valvetrain was like 5-7k I think I was told.
