Seems like turbos make a LOT more sense, give a huge drop in exhaust temperature after passing through the turbine (and less stress on the crankshaft/engine). I know turbos can still get hot in the area of the cats, but it would seem with the turbine you'd at least be converting a lot of that heat energy into something usefull.

Confused

This is what I'm confused about. Several large companies that install S/C who share this site use the oem exhaust when installing S/C. It seems that this issue is known so why are they using the oem cats. If I remove my kooks exhaust, headers and hi flow cats and put my oem parts back on how much HP will I loose . Also can instill use the 3.6 pulley

Just remove your cats ^. And you'll lose between 30-40hp.

So would it be better to have twin turbos and high flow cats. Or can turbos replace the high flow cats? I've heard of that but never had it proven so to say. But if the turbo can fix the heating problem and run through the cats and be fine for the cats. Just might be the direction I would rather take vs. supercharger.

exactly big bucks, the insides look different too. oem has small holes on what looks like a gride or you could say honey cone looking. my kooks look like thin metal strips wrapped around the inside.

Ted you suggest 3.6 pully with maggy if running long tube headers and cats right? or is that without cats? cats or no cats how does this effect boost. better to have a 3.4 pulley without cats? thanks

Same issue here. Running a E-force, cam, SLP headers with cats. When Vector Motorsports was tuning it, we thought we had bad fuel because he could not get any timing in it without spark knock. Those guys are awesome and he set it safe and away I went. After a couple hundred boosted miles, I swore the rods were coming out of the motor, come to find out, it was the cat material rattling around. Removed then and found them TOTALLY destroyed. Gutted them and off we go. Just need to get it back to re-tune for some more HP!!!

'Loud' is a subjective question. I went from stock to Stainless Works 2" long tubes, cam, no cats, and Borla S type exhaust. It's definitely louder than stock but not obnoxious. However, that is my opinion. Someone else may consider my car too loud. See video....maybe this will help. Near the end of the video I had my wife open the cutouts so don't freak out about that sound!! LOL

LEMME HEAR A LIL BIT!!!

Here is 1-7/8" stainless works, no cats and American thunder by Flowmaster. Also opening cutouts. This is stock ls3 cam. I agree with the above poster, sound is subjective. I feel neither his nor my car is very loud until you open the cutouts!
