Camaro SS V/S WRX
2011 Camaro SS (bone stock) agaist an all wheel drive WRX with upgraded turbo and some bolt ons. Things were going fine right up untill I broke loose on the 2nd to 3rd upshift. He pulled me by a car length, his not mine We will probly run again after the dealership fixes my exhaust rattle and I get back on the high octain tune.
I had the pleasure of watching this car get dyno tuned a few months back to 384 HP to the wheels. I feel pretty good that I held my ground against a lighter, all wheel drive, turbo car. Next time the outcome should be different if I can keep the rear hooked up.

That's a lot of AWDhp for a wrx, that means serious upgrades, built engine usually, big intercooler, big turbo, injectors, etc. Consider that with AWD trans losses he's probably close to 450hp at the crank. That being a little more than stock SS RWHP with AWD traction, it should pull on you every day and Sunday. If he "just has some bolt ons" he's going to kill the engine in a few more passes, but with that kind of awhp it sounds like he has a bit more than just that. There's no way you can compete from a dig, and unless you've got a super/turbo charger you aren't going to run him down once he's going with that kind of hp.

384 whp and 3300 lbs vs 360-375 whp and 3800 lbs
Hmm yea I think you can take him lol! You are going to need about 70 more hp and traction to match his weigh/hp.

As stated in the original post, he has upgraded the turbo and I imagine everything to go with it. He will not race from a dig, last time he tryed he grenaded the tranny. I already knew that I was going to get beat but it was still fun to try, and I will try again in the future. Always fun to race, no matter what the outcome.

a buddy of mine upgraded his down pipe on a STI and said he was around 400 but wouldnt say if that was at the engine or tires.

As mentioned
A WRX with upgraded turbo and supporting mods making the advertised awhp should have no trouble beating a stock Camaro SS in a drag race. My WRX (upgraded Turbo setup) was pulling 1.66 sec 60' times at the track. That's in the high 3 sec (0-60 mph zone). So that guy must have been rolling off the line to protect his tranny (not launching) if you were keeping up. |

Well we started at a 40 MPH roll, me being in second gear, broke loose in third, let of at 115, and was about a car length behind him. If I would have hooked up in third it would have been alot closer. On the flip side, thats the first time that I have lost traction in third. I believe that being it was the first time that I have been behind in a race that I may have messed up that shift a bit. Either way, we will race again in the future and if he beats me again then it will be time for my SS to get modded. Still debating on a supercharger but that will have to be a ways down the road.

They're no joke when modded. I've got a guy rolling around town with 400 whp supposedly that I want nothing to do with.

Neither, he was exaggerating. A downpipe and tune on an sti is good for quite a bit of power, about 50-60awhp in most cases, but that's going to put him in the ~280-300awhp range and ~375 at the crank. There are other bolt ons you can do to make more power though, stock turbo limit is roughly ~350awhp. You just have to remember how light these cars are. ~500-600 lbs less than an SS.

That AWHP is going to get some serious distance usually, he can put it all to the ground relatively fast, unlike many other kinds of cars. Instead of burning rubber, he just goes. Although again you might "run him down" if you did it right, if he's starting from a dig (and has the trans to handle the power) he's going to simple launch ahead and you'll try to catch up. The thing is that with that much AWHP he's no slouch at top end, unlike very small turbos that run out of steam past 80mph. The thing is that even turbo AWD cars with far less HP will launch way ahead and may take the 1/8th with ease, but obviously it's very different at the higher speeds.
