Firehawk Wide Oval vs. General GMax

It is finally time for me to get new tires for my 2011 2SS/RS, and I have been looking at different options. I was pretty well sold on the Hankook Ventus S1 Noble, but they don't appear to be available in a 275/40ZR20, which means that's not an option. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

At this point I have pretty well narrowed it down to the Firehawk Wide Oval or the General GMax AS-03. Both are 40K rated tires. I've heard good things from a few people on the Firehawks, but TireRack rates the GMax much higher, especially in the wet. I was hoping to hear some feedback from members on each tire, and maybe even someone that's used both? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks, everyone!

Just put the Generals on last week so only 10 miles on them.
Less road noise then the PZero's
Going to FL next week so that will be the test.

I had Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500's on my '96 Z28 and they were great. These are the summer tire version, not all season. They were very smooth and quiet. I liked them and will be looking at them again when the P Zeros are worn out. Some people say the Generals are quiet, others say they are very noisy. Not sure what to make of those.

1200 miles on the G-Max which replaced the P-Zeros day 2. After driving them Jan - Mar here in northern Indiana I think they are going to be a very good 3-1/2 season tire. I just got some Interstate miles today on dry pavement for the first time. I will run them into hot weather and see how they last. On another thread, a guy mentioned Invo Motivos as his stock size pick in an all season. He has more mile on his Motivos so I would consider them also.

Thanks for the responses, everyone!

I was leaning towards the Firehawks, but the shop I was talking to suddenly couldn't get them, and wanted $250+ dollars for any other option they offered. I'm talking to another shop about the GMax tires now, and thinking that their wet performance will probably be a big benefit for me anyway. I'll let everyone know how it finally ends up!

Ok, I ended up getting the GMax, $1055 installed & road hazard at Sears auto. Not too bad. It was really the wet performance numbers that sold me. Final mileage out of the Pirellis - 19517. Lets hope the Gmax run a little longer.

So it has been over 6 months with the new tires, and I am very happy with them. They are definitely far better in the wet than the Pirelli's.

That is surprising as I never had an issue with the Pirelli's in the rain. I thought they were damn good.

Thanks for the update.

How is the noise level with the Generals? Some people say they are very quiet, and others state they are incredibly loud.

They may be a little noisier than the Pirellis, but not much on mine. Much more aggressive and wide grooves I believe cause it.
