Rotella T6 5W40 here. May switch to Amsoil just because a friend of mine became a dealer recently.

Is anyone running Royal Purple or am I wasting my money paying the price for that oil?

Has there ever been a case of a motor lost that can be attributed to brand (that was SAE approved)? I've never heard of an incident. So, if you're happy with what you're running, by all means, keep using it. IMO, it's all good - but do use the proper weight for your motor and purpose. 'nuff said.

I agree with what dreksnot has said here, but I was warned specifically against using Royal Purple, from AGP, when it comes to the turbos. According to Kevin, he has seen a good amount of turbo failures from people using Royal Purple.

I had no idea about the turbo failures and Royal Purple. Guess it is time for an oil change. Thanks

Been using Penz Platinum 10w30 full synthetic with a container of lucas zddp additive for 2 years for every oil change. No issues with my particular setup. I have 15k miles on my turbo now and drive 140 miles per day. Dont go cheap on the oil filter. I run mobil 1 in all my other cars and i think it is also good oil. Amsoil also has good reviews here. I used Rotella T6 for a year with no issues. Walmart always has the best price on oil around me.

All oils are not created equal and 6-8years ago there was a rash of engine and turbo failures, clearly related to oil failure. All the oil companies were playing games with blends and technology a lot of very expensive parts paid the price. They were so focused on making the oils as thin as possible so your crank would cut through it easier to gain 2hp and .1mpg that they started loosing their lubrication properties. Royal Purple lead the pack from what we saw. $20-30k N/A race engines, loads of our customer's turbos, stock EVO engines at low mileage, it was a very very real problem. Lot's of good information out now about additives, ZDDP, multi weight synthetics, etc if you want to search and read. Easy thing to do is just buy Brad Penn oil off Amazon and don't worry about it. They are real experts and have it all taken care of for you.

What viscosity do you think is ideal for Florida where it never drops below freezing and is usually 55+ degrees or hot?

Something around 10w-40 'winter' and 20w-50 summer.

I have been reading these "what is the best oil" threads as long as I have been a forum member. They helped me make my decision to switch to Penz.

I run Rotella T6 5w40. I know I'm a V6'r but I'm turbo and we built and forged this motor with .0025 clearances. I also like that the Rotella is cheap enough to change very often.
