M6 shifter knob - anyone have issues with the design?

I'm guessing that after a year or so of rowing the gears, M6 owners like myself are going to regret the baseball stitching on the shifter knob. I'm thinking the stitching is going to become soiled and stained. Any of you have this concern?

See the pics below of the shifters for the Camaro, Challenger, and Mustang. I think Chevy made a less than ideal design choice on the shifter knob - they should have gone with a metal, hard plastic, or ?

Hey neighbor!

When is your car due? Agree with your comment. It looks good now but I suspect it will stain. I wonder if you can spray it with scotch guard or something? I wanted the hurst shifter but it wasn't availaible yet.

I got my 2SS Silver Ice on June 4.

enjoy

I can only imagine the burns I'd get from that metal mustang shifter on a hot, let alone warm day. In the winter it would be freezing too. Though it is kinda cool. I just like the hurst shifter and hope it or a nice replacement will be out soon.

Car is due in Sept/Oct (long story short - cancelled at one dealership and reorder over the 4th holiday). Good idea on the Scotchguard - I will do this during the first week of ownership. I, too will be getting the aftermarket Hurst billet/plus shifter when it becomes available.

Yep. Going to be 115 degrees this next week here in the vast Sonoran desert. I still like the metal better, or possibly leather without the stitching.

I don't have a problem with the shifter knob, but the cup holder location is a bit annoying with a 64 ounce big gulp and straw in the way...

Roger that on the 115. I'm headed to Sedona on Sat to take some nice photos and beat the heat.

There are a lot of great aftermarket shift knobs out there. I will probably pick up one or two and experiment with some different shapes and sizes to see what I like best. I like what GM came up with here because it would have been easy to throw something from the parts bin on there but instead they created something special for this car. That is one of the things I like about the entire car. Very little on the interior is out of the standard GM parts bin.

Pretty much any standard shift vehicle I've owned in the "cup holder" era has been very difficult to shift around a 64 ouncer.

Sadly, you won't be able to use any of the aftermarket shifters that are out now. I thought the same as you, but the Camaro shifter is press-fitted on to the shaft as opposed to being threaded on.

I wanted to use a Tremec shift knob, but alas it won't happen.
