swapped stock mufflers for flowmasters today

I think the camaro should sound like a muscle car. I wanted loud. The exhaust place told me the flowmaster 40s I wanted them to replace my stock mufflers with would be too loud and tried to sell me the magnaflows so they'd be quieter. No thanks fellas, I want LOUD, put the flowmasters on.

So that's exactly what they did. I simply replaced my stock mufflers with flowmaster original 40 series.

I gotta say, the car sounds like a four cylinder with a fart can inside. Outside, there isn't much change in tone at idle. I'm not a fan. What's the deal? I've had 40s on my pickups for years and loved them.

Should I cut out the factory resonators? Will that change my sound to get what I want? I want the loud rumble of a V8 that I'm used to in my pickups.

$300. I bought the mufflers there so I didn't have to wait. Could probably have saved a bit buying them somewhere else though. It is not the sound I had hoped for.

do you have an automatic? the stock resonator plays a huge role in overall sound.

ditch the resonators for an x-pipe and disable AFM with a tune or programmer.

Yep, it's an automatic. If the resonator delete will change the tone, I'll get that hacked off tomorrow morning. Don't want to void my warranty with a tune.

Honestly, the car sounds better turned off right now than when it is running.

well after you remove the resonator, i guarantee the AFM will annoy the crap out of you enough to get a tune!

Good gravy. Guess I just burned $300 then. I'd rather go back to stock than have what I have right now. It seriously sounds like a 4 banger w/ a fart can.

You can try running around in M mode and paddle shifting. I avoid AFM 98% of the time this way on mine. Even on the freeway. It doesn't engage unless I move the shifter to D! Plus I love the paddles!!

Will be trying the American Thunder system if I can't get this thing sounding better. Seems like it's just a straight through from the cat converter back to two flowmaster mufflers. Looks like I'm just missing a resonator delete. Round straight pipe is round straight pipe.
