Not to be a know it all, but the engine goes for roughly 21-22k.

This has been covered earlier on in the thread...and that's not the case.

Robin, if you had an LS9 on hand, what made you go with an LSA for your car? Would the S/C housing on the LS9 have to be modified like what you did to your LSA to clear the wiper tray?

LOL that is a GREAT question. First I was going to install the LS9 in the car. But the guys at GM Performance Parts felt that since the LSA would probably be the choice of engine in the rumored Z28 I should use the LSA.

Since the LS9 manifold is lower it does not require any modification to install in a 2010 Camaro. The clutch would also work easier compared to the clutch that comes with the LSA.

On one hand I was told they wanted to see the true performance potential of the LSA. Later I was told that they had wished that I had left the LSA engne stock.

The LSA is a great engine and I have learned a bunch about the potential of this engine.

One more question, then I will talk with you more at the fest. You said the LS9 manifold is lower and would fit the wiper tray, can it be installed on an LSA engine without modifications?

Yes and no, the bolt patter is the same for the tops. The LSA and the LSA have sensors in different positions and the fuel rails are different. For that reason you would need to make some modifications,

The LSA uses 1 square intercooler towards the rear or raised portion of the top. The air from the TVS 1900 goes straight up then makes the turn after passing through the intercooler core. The core sits on a square rubber gasket that is in a recess in the lower manifold.

The LS9 uses 2 intercooler cores that sit to the sdie of the opening of the TVS2300. The air makes the turn before the intercooler core. The LS9 lower has 2 rubber gasket strips that run the length of the manifold.

If you were to use the LS9 top on the LSA lower you would need to make some seals to close the gaps from the different gasket configurations. You could rig something up pretty easily but the efficency would suffer.

Here is the kicker, the LSA intercooler is less restrictive and more efficiant that the LS9. That statment should cause some LS9 huggers a little heartburn.

My thoughts.....of course

Robin

Compact packaging comes at a cost...especially in a car as tight as the Vette...

*hugs tighter*

Hehe, yeah I love that engine also. You are correct. Packaging comes at a cost.

Actually to save a lot of work we looked at using the LS9 upper to get the car done. Some people felt that if we used the LS9 top people would think that the engine was an LS9. There were many LS9 2010 Camaros already completed.

From what I know there are only 3 LSA powered Camaros.

1) The first is a mystery car that I am sworn to secrecy
2) The second was my car
3) The third is Conrad's BIW LSA Drift car
4) anyone else???
