Exclamation Winter Tires - Reminder about TPMS

When you switch your tires, such as putting on your winter/snow tires, remember you need to re-program your Tire Pressure Monitor.

If you don't, after several miles your DIC will flash a warning Tire Pressure Malfunction. The instructions for doing it are pretty straight forward (see pages 9-59 thru 9-61) in the owners manual.

(Also - remember when installing your winter tires or putting the regular tires back on in the spring, make sure they are put on the correct side. Most high performance tires can only go in one direction. Look for the "Rotation" arrow. It's a real pain in the ... when you've put the tires on to find out you've got to re-do it because they are on the wrong side!)

Excellent advice being given here. I speak from experience. After swaping my summer tires/wheels for the Tire Rack winter replacements I immediately checked the DIC and saw that I had pressure readings in all four tires. What I didn't realize is that was old data stored from the summer tire readings. After about a 20 minute drive the message appeared in the DIC that all my tire pressures were zero! A quick read of the owners manual (as you have noted by page numbers) got me back on track. This same process will need to be repeated next spring when the summer tires go back on.

What about calibrating the system for the new tires if they are different sizes?

I re-calibrated mine this weekend after onstar gave me a report that my tire pressure was low. Belle tire just mounted the Pirelli scorpions but I'm not sure if they reset the TPMS.

Anhow, I noticed that when you re-calibrate the tires, that the turn signal of the tire it wants to get a signal from will be illuminated. That part wasn't in the manual, and that helped.

Today, the tires are reading closer to what they should be instead of low.
