Lightest square setup for track

Hi all,

I am looking to buy some wheels to square up my 2ss and was wondering if anybody else has any good suggestions on what to get.
I want the lightest setup I can get and I want to run 19's to get the rotational mass down to increse my acceleration times.

Any suggestions?

Depends on your budget...

Thought I saw you may be prepping for Germany? If you plan to run solo at the stadium, don't go lower than 26" Dia on a lowered car. Carriage will scrape on low grade transitions and street driving too.

Cheapest race setup I'm looking at is TSW 20x10(25-29 lbs each) and nt01 285/35r20. Still will cost little over 3k for everything. Lightweight Forged 19" will cost +4k just for the wheels. Tires will still run 300-400 each. 295/35r19 on 10" or larger tires will need 10.5" to 11" wheels.

What are your goals and budget?

Budget is still in question, but probably high. Goal is to run on the Nurburgring and beat the factory zl1 lap time and be within the z/28 time whenever they run it. I want to be able to keep up with or pass corvettes, ferrari's, 911's or any of the euro stars <300k. I want to keep it completely square and run some ultra high performance street tracks like nt05's.

If you want the lightest then go for mono block designs not 3 piece ones they are more rigid and will last longer coz of durability but they tend to be heavier.

Well, without having to spend a fortune the only wheels I know of that meet your goals are Enkei RPF1-19x10's but I believe they may have been discontinued. There are still some out there if you check around. Retail is about $600 each but you can find them for around $400 if you do some searching. They have an offset of 25 mm so they come right to the edge of the wheel well but I haven't had any clearance problems. They weigh 20.18 lbs each. I'm running Michelin Pilot Super Sports in a 275/40-19 and they stick out past the wheel. This particular tire is really wide for some reason. I could have gone with 285's but they were 2 lbs heavier each and only added .4 inches of tire patch so I chose the 275's to save the unsprung weight. Glad I did because I can't imagine how far out past the wheel the 285's would go. The weight of the wheel with tire, balance weights, TPMS etc. is 49 lbs. And this is a 10" wide wheel. The factory SS 20" wheels are 62 lbs in the front; 67 lbs in the rear, so the weight reduction is significant.

The real challenge is finding the tires in the sizes you want for a 19" wheel. There are many more choices now than even just a couple years ago so it's much better but you may still have some challenges. The NT05 comes in a 275/35-19 but that would leave a pretty big wheel gap in the fender well. You're already losing an inch by going down to a 19 and the 35 profile lowers it even further.

These are the 275/40-19 Michelin PSS on mine, and I have my car lowered with Pedders coilovers:


I had them painted of course (they come in silver normally) but you can certainly feel the difference when you take that much weight off the corners.

Other than these you're going to have to spend a lot more to find anything close to them in weight.

To compete with a Z28, you will need Z28 sized wheels & tires,19 X 11 front & rear,they may be even different offsets.$$$$$$,Oh also need Pedders!

I run Forgestar F14 18x10 all the way around with 285/40 18 Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires. The tires are a little heavier than I would like, but they were stupid cheap so I decided to try them out.

I got the wheels and tires for under $1,700. They are about 50 lbs lighter than stock.

What offset are you running for your 18's? I like your setup and I would love to run it. Have you lowered it at all or is that just from the 18's?

I'm running 38mm all the way around so I can rotate them, but you have to be careful. I calculated this offset with other tires in mind so they would tuck as far in as posible and then bought these Goodyears at the last second. The sidewall on these Goodyears bulges out way more than the tires I planned on running so I'm having to use a small 5 mm spacer up front.

I'm either going with different tires when these wear our or I may just buy coilovers and get the extra clearance with those.

I'm also lowered about 1.5".
