Trying some new Cats - Eastern Catalytic

UPDATE: PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ POST #10 BELOW FOR SOME IMPORTANT INFO IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING THESE CATS.

After doing a ton of research, I decided to try out some cats from a company called Eastern Catalytic. I wanted to try to find a cat that might hold up to 550hp boosted (supercharged) application. Anyone here ever use these cats? They market a "High Performance Bullet Cat" that is rated for 5.9L and tested up to 8.0L V12 applications. They use a 200 cell/in2 metallic substrate similar to other high flow cats we see.

Here is what I bought: http://www.easterncatalytic.com/wp-c...letCat2009.pdf
(I got product #79230 -- metallic, 3" inlet and outlet)

They claim to be the manufacturer for many of the aftermarket cats we see. Though the only one I can confirm is that they make the cats for LG Motorsports and LG proudly touts them as their cat partner for their quality.

What I found interesting was the size of this cat. Its a fair bit larger than most other cats. The cat portion itself is 4.25" diameter x 8" long...with the total length coming in at 12". Compare that to something like Stainless Works cat that comes in at 4" in diameter and the total length of the pipe is 10.75" with the actual length of the cat being somewhere in the 5" range.

The price is interesting too....$90 each at carparts.com. So...I thought I'd give them a shot.

Will they hold up to boost??? We'll see. I'll report back.

In the meantime, I'd love to hear some feedback on these cats if anyone has used them (I searched camaro5 and found nothing on "Eastern catalytic" other than LG Performance touting them as their vendor)

Subscribed! Trying to find an alternative to the Stainless Works cats and these appear to offer options in similar sizing without the cost.

Quick update here guys. I finally got my cats in from Eastern Catalytic. I was surprised to find the dimensions of the cat different than their catalog showed for cat #79230. Their marketing materials show that it should be 12" total length with a 8" cat portion. The cats I received were only 10" long with a 6" cat portion. These dimensions are identical to what they show in their marketing materials as cat #79130. However, the box that the cats came in still show "79230" on the label but with the dimensions of the 79130 printed on the label too.

So....I call up Eastern Catalytic. Come to find out, they discontinued the 12" length cat almost 2 years ago and now only make one 10" length high performance bullet cat. Yet they still label this part #79230. I chewed them out a little bit about this. Pretty poor that a company doesn't even update their own marketing materials on their own website for a change they made almost 2 year ago.

Anyway...wanted to let you guys know that in case someone else is going to give these cats a try.

That all being said...I am still going to give these cats a try. The tech service guy at Eastern Cat said that the 10" cats are designed for 3.8L per cat. So with 2 cats...technically speaking these cats are designed for 7.6L total. So hopefully they might hold up to my supercharged 6.2L LS3. We'll see.

Too bad they don't still make that 5.9L 12" cat. That thing would be good for 11.8L with both of them. Would have probably been a super robust cat for supercharged LS3's.

I'll report back the results as I get these cats on and beat on them a bit.

What happened to the other cats. Did they blow out. My Kooks are around 10.75" long total length.

Never had any cats on the car except for the stock ones. Which did fine. But I've now added headers...so I embarked on a quest to find some robust cats and found these. Going to give them a try.

So nothing has happened to any cats that I've had. Maybe you read that post wrong. What I was trying to say is that Eastern Catalytic no longer makes the 12" long bullet cat. They only make the 10" version...which is the one I am putting on now.

Thought I'd update this thread. I ran these Eastern Catalytic high performance cats all summer...did a ton of tuning (3000ish miles) and about 10 1/4 mile runs. The whole time i never had my COT turned on in my tune. I'm pleased to report that the cats are holding up very well. Just checked them.

Not sure I'm ready to definitively say these will hold up forever or give them my full backing. But so far, so good.
