Great Advice.. But have a question for you Darin Morgan..
What about Auto's?? My 2LT is a Auto, is your advice on break-in the same or is there a whole different way for Auto's?

I want my engine to perform at its BEST, and LAST.. so what do you suggest?

The transmission has nothing to do with engine break in. Both autos and manuals are broke in the same way.

Darin, I have to drive 200 miles home, so i plan on doing the following: Use your method for the first 100 miles, accellerate hard from a roll, let off the gas, repeat. After 100 miles I will stop for lunch (1-2 hours, let it cool down as much as possible) then repeat for the final 100 miles. What do you think?

Thank you!

Darin,

Wish I would've read this sooner but I'm at 1250 mostly mild miles. Few hard starts and runs through 5000rpm. So is there anything I can do at this point to help break in or is it as good as it gets? Thanks for the great info!!

Does the Camaro already come with synthetic oil? If so, should I drain it and add non-synthetic oil?

It seems the most crucial part of the hard break-in is within the first 20 miles. My dealer is located 23 miles from where I plan on doing this break-in procedure. What shall I do?

Do you reccomend changing the oil within 100 miles?

Which is the best oil filter?

The hard break-in procedure on an LS3:
Engine is warmed up. I shift to second gear, I give a hard accelaration(not flooring it) up to 5000 rpm's, let off and engine brake back to original speed I shifted into 2nd gear in and get back on it? (the first 100 miles?)

Run it hard and run it hard right now. Go out and do about 50 hard runs in "Sport" mode letting the trans shift itself. Do NOT use the manul shift paddles.

Sounds fine.

About the oil,,, Just use the oil in the engine. Draining it out and using the strait 30W non detergent oil is just a waste. They will break in with Mobil1 in them it just takes a little longer.

I'm getting the LS3(manual) also and here is how I plan on doing it for the first 100 miles:

1. I'll get the engine nice and warm. Once I shift into second, I'll give it a hard accelaration(not flooring it) up to 5000 rpm's, let off and engine-brake back to original speed I shifted into 2nd gear in and then get back on it? (I'm not sure if you do this throughout all the gears. 2nd gear seems like the best gear to use so you're not getting into dangerous speeds)

2. I will change oil at 100 miles to a non-synthetic.

3. I will change oil at 1500 miles back to synthetic.

OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS AND OPINIONS ARE WELCOME.

OK, I'm new to the camaro and just getting started. I picked up mine on Sept. 11 and drove her back to the house that was about 20 miles away, then took it out and drove it around to run some errands and broke some of the rules you explained not to do, such as, drove with the cruise on, downshifting, not going over 3000-3500 rpms. Now that I have read this, I need some help on breaking this thing in properly. I have a 1SS with the manual and now have 90 miles on it, What advice can you give me about breaking this thing in. Honestly speaking, I'm not good enough with the clutch to go jamming through the gears. But i'm doing what everyone else is doing, ENJOYING IT and lovin to see the head turns.
