drilling carbon fiber?
Looking to get a VIS oem carbon trunk lid, but I want to add my Z28 spoiler. Its a 2010, so i have the 6 holes. Anyone ever drill through the fiber deck lid? is there a template out there?

I dont think there is a template, but easiest way would be to just cardboard and trace the outline of the trunk and then use the screws in the spoiler to punch indentations on the cardboard to make a template.

Any kind of titanium bit should work, carbide bit if you can find one. I would also epoxy the edges after drilling.

I have not drilled into carbon fiber, how ever I have drilled into plexi-glass, cherry wood furniture, etc. I put a piece of duct tape in the area of where you are going to drill. The duct tape helps to stop chipping. Drill pilot holes first and make sure your bit is sharp. Go slow and steady do not force the drill, "let the drill and bit do the work"

There is another trick that I use to locate where to drill holes for like example when you want to hang a power strip or something that has 2 holes in it. It sometimes a pita to locate the second hole. I take a piece of painters tape put it over the entire length of the item wanting to hang and mark the hanging holes with a sharpie. Then I take the tape and put it on the wall then drill out the sharpie markings. the holes will then line up with what you are trying to hang. This method may work with locating the holes in your application.

I've drilled Carbon fiber it's very easy. Use painters tape. Mark the painters tape where you want to drill and drill through the tape this will keep the carbon fiber from chipping . Also you want the drill at its fastest setting . It will give you a nice clean edge to the hole . If its good quality carbon fiber it won't splinter on the backside. Don't push the the drill through let it do the work with light pressure.
