What's the verdict on trans fluid in this car?

I'm reading conflicting threads here as to whether to go with an ATF or something like RP Synchromax in this particular transmission.

TIA.

The transmission fluids like RP synchromax, Redline D4 and such are very similar to a ATF type fluid. ATF could be used but the types of fluids mention earlier are specifically designed for manual transmissions.

Amsoil signature series ATF. The Tremec calls for ATF not the normal manual transaxle fluid. I'm also a dealer and that's all I use. Gets rid of that sloppy 1st to 2nd shift.

I was not going to change mine because I really had not problem with it. But at 8000 miles now I am noticing the notchy feel more, lots more sound, and harder shifting. So I am thinking it is time to change it. I talked to Tremmec engineers at the Auto Show in Detroit and they told me it was designed to never have the fluid changed and Tremmec engineers are smart guys and have done all the testing to select the best oil to leave in it forever. But...man, I am noticing a change in the trans and need to change it this winter for sure.
Here is a good thread on it...

I just changed mine for the first time at 4K miles to Royal Purples Synchromax for manual transmissions that require an ATF fluid. Shifts are much smoother and quicker now. Pricey but worth it IMO.

I am going to go with Redline D4 ATF. Just seems like if they have tested it with ATF and say to use ATF...you should run ATF. Maybe just a better one.

Yes, what I meant was ATF type fluids intended specifically for manual transmission use. I.e. Redline D4 and MTL among others of course.

When you change the rearend gear lube, drop you need to add a GM additive? Thought I read something about an additive being needed.

How much did you use? and where did you get your fluids from. Im saving for a house so no major mods yet but I keep hearing about how changing the fluids would major the car shift better!

Yes, OEM calls for the additive.

The regular Redline 75w90 bottle already contains a predetermined amount of additive in there. Their 75W90NS however does not, but this allows the end user to customize the amount of additive needed for their given application.

Copy and Pasted below from Redline concerning their separate additive bottle:

Limited-slip or Positraction units use plates or clutches to provide the proper amount of lock-up to the differential. Slippery lubricants are required to prevent chatter, but too much slipperiness causes excess wheel spin, reducing traction.
For perfect traction, use Red Line 75W90NS and add the Red Line Limited-Slip Differential Friction-Modifier / Break-In Additive until the chatter disappears......

I recently read a thread here about smooth shifting after draining and refilling the tranny fluid. Because of the glowing remarks I recently had the local speed shop here replace the factory fluid with Redline and all I can say is "amazing!". That notchy feel in cold weather is gone. The shifting is not butter smooth. After three years I wish I would have done this sooner.
