paddle shifters=gone

after 2 weeks of enjoying these fantastic paddle shifters from vitesse motor sports, my left paddle shifter broke today

someone (probably my nephew) lowered my steering wheel so when i went to get out of my car, i fully thrusted into the paddle shifter breaking it off. I am so upset about this since ive been using it daily ever since. Guess back to stock paddles

Ah man...I just received these in the mail and this is the last thing I wanted to read.

What broke? The plastic in the wheel?

Is this a common occurence with these paddles?

Now I'm paranoid to install them....

Yes the plastic on the wheel broke, on the paper that comes with the paddle shifter i remember it said something about not to remove them so much. Something like would be a problem or situation like mine that was by accident. When you install them, make sure you keep them away from your knees or else lol

Why not just buy a new one or new set of that type?

the paddle shifters aren't the problem, look at the picture of the steering wheel. The hole in which they click into is ruined. I dont know if i would have to buy a new steering wheel or what.

You guys should try to get the Paddle Shifter from CFD intead. That way you have to worry about breaking steering wheels. Plus Its easier to drive shifting with paddles on shifter rather than steering wheel. Just my opinion and recommendation.

Well you can get steering wheel's off ebay for about a $100 with everything except airbag. I'd buy one of the silver trim rings with the steering wheel radio controls & wiring. from which ever steering wheel if that's the route you go, I've got a friend with a 1LT Auto that's been looking for radio controls to add to their car.

So..if I am reading this right, in all the cases of this happening the paddle was smacked hard by a leg to cause the plastic to chip off?

Makes sense, you're replacing a plastic button that doesn't stick out at all that then connects into a plastic housing with a piece of pretty strong metal that is longer into the same plastic housing..if it gets hit hard enough and in the right way I absolutely see the plastic breaking, we know the aluminum isn't going to give while it is in a plastic setting - but you can be assured that plastic is.

I haven't got mine in yet but I will be interested to inspect myself. I don't see this as a problem for regular use though, only those times you manage to punch a paddle with way more than tap shift force or carelessly hitting your knee/leg on it.
