Camaro Brakes : Rusty?

Hi Everyone,

I have a question about the Brakes on the new Camaro's. Will they appear rusty after the first wet day?

My previous T/A had this problem. I replaced the brakes with Nickel plated vented brakes which looked good for a while, but the brake dust which came off the pads would settle on to the discs and then appear rusty again.

Anyone know if the Camaro brake system has this fixed? I just saw the pictures that Jody posted of her new Camaro in this thread and the discs look a little scary... (In the small picture I attached I increased the saturation a little, and sure enough it looks like red rust.)

Say it isn't so!

PS: Jody you have a BEAUTIFUL Car... Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alot of brakes will do that. As soon as you apply them when driving it is gone, no big deal.

Park it inside. When in a garage and not out in the moisture they will not do that.

I think if you get the LS wheels you can't see the rotors.

Every single car should do the same. . . like others said it is rust. . the rotors don't have any protection on them. . . it's bare metal. . thus no matter what you do, it will rust.

Come one dude. What do expect steel to do? You could always switch to the ZR1 set-up?

They rust on purpose. You're supposed to be driving it, not staring at it rotting in the yard.

Don't listen to these guys, they don't know what they're talking about.

It's actually quite easy to prevent. The problem with bare steel (and most metals - even aluminum) is it oxidizes very quickly. So to prevent this, you must create a nonreactive barrier between the steel and the atmosphere.

Just spray some light oil on there and you can kiss that rust goodbye! Why do you think metal parts are always shipped with a light coating of oil on them? WD-40 works, or if you don't have any some Pam cooking spray works quite well also. Good luck!
